unless he invokes executive privilege

Dem staffers are already sharpening their pencils an printing subpoena forms.
LINK: Mnuchin Dismisses I.R.S. Memo Saying Treasury Must Release Trump Tax Returns
Somebody in the IRS thought there was a federal law forcing the IRS to submit the tax returns of anybody when congress demands it (including me and you). If so, that law needs to be amended in my opinion.
I wonder if we want the courts telling congress it can't enforce a law (again).

he Internal Revenue Service has no choice but to honor congressional requests for President Trump’s tax returns unless he invokes executive privilege to protect them, according to a draft legal memo written by agency staff members.

Let’s see who those bright legal scholars are. Name them. Publicly. Then pull up all the Facebook posts, Instagrams, Snapchats, voting history, and lets not forget about their emails, text messages, phone records. Dig deep. Really deep.

Until some of these people are hanging from a lamp post on Pennsylvania Ave, this will never end.

I don’t see how tax returns could be protected by executive privilege.

The key word here is “draft.” This is a DNC-manufactured incident to grab a headline. It lacks all substance. It’s the Rat Pack trying to give their lunatic base a straw to grasp as their entire 2-year hoax sinks like the Titanic.

Because memos ALWAYS supersede actual laws. Failing that, simply do what the dems do. Ignore. Repeat as needed. And I mean IGNORE!

Mr President ORDER the Treasury Department to conduct an Inquiry into these disturbing facts.

Mr President,
How do Members of CONgress become so Wealthy after serving just a few short years????

26 USC 6103(g), the same law Schiff is using

g) Disclosure to President and certain other persons
(1) In generalUpon written request by the President, signed by him personally, the Secretary shall furnish to the President, or to such employee or employees of the White House Office as the President may designate by name in such request, a return or return information with respect to any taxpayer named in such request. Any such request shall state—
(A) the name and address of the taxpayer whose return or return information is to be disclosed,
(B) the kind of return or return information which is to be disclosed,
(C) the taxable period or periods covered by such return or return information, and
(D) the specific reason why the inspection or disclosure is requested.

Well, it would seem that the Treasury Department's statement takes precedent over the IRS since the IRS reports to Treasury.

The IRS isn't an independent body. They have bosses in the Treasury Department.

The Dems have the conviction part figured out, they just to determine a crime and maybe some evidence. I guess that’s the new justice system....

How about this: Release the tax returns on the condition that Maxine Waters has read them and explain what she sees.

The Internal Revenue Service has no choice but to honor congressional requests for President Trump’s tax returns unless he invokes executive privilege to protect them, according to a draft legal memo written by career swamp bureaucrat hacks.

There. Fixed it.

Someone should tell Nadler and Pelosi that Congressional “oversight” of the Executive Branch does NOT mean “power over” the CO-EQUAL “Executive Branch”.

More specifically, they should be told that “oversight” also does NOT mean “power to conduct witch-hunts and fishing expeditions against employees of the Executive Branch.

And they should be told that “oversight” does NOT mean “power to create “kangaroo courts” to indict, prosecute and JUDGE political enemies WITHOUT actually “impeaching” them.

Unlike “impeachment”, “kangaroo courts” do NOT ensure that the “accused” has the right to cross-examine the accusers and the right to prevent “hearsay evidence” from being presented at the trial. THAT is why “kangaroo Courts” are illegal.

And THAT is why Pelosi, Nadler and other Dems WANT them.

Talk to 100 different IRS staffers about how to interpret a tax question, get 100 different answers.

And it's STILL the responsiblity of the taxpeasant, in the end...

But the I.R.S. memo says the Treasury secretary does not have the authority to deny tax-writing committees’ requests for taxpayer returns

Written, I presume, by Lois Lerner?
