It's what New Yorkers think they crave. Marxism is 'cool' to discuss at cocktail parties, but I absolutely unequivocally assert that if Communism/Socialism ever came to the US, God forbid, they would be the first to lament the change.
The unsophisticated 'sophisticated' think that their lives would go on as usual, but the 'little people' would be 'taken care of' (kind of like pets). I love NYC in many ways, appreciated the positives of living there, and have lived in other major cities, but I absolutely believe that the level of 'sophistication' that urban pseudo-intellectuals' think they have is a pathetic joke.
