This is actually a smart calculation on her part. Border states are fearful of lost business from this action and she has to look like she is standing with local business. Same reaction from Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas who is otherwise a solid Trump supporter.
I’d give her some leeway here unlike those Republicans grandstanding for impeachment.

Your opposition to his tariffs vs Mexico is not sound. Either say nothing, or support it. Your softness on this issue will be perceived across the border as a signal to stiffen. Why do you think Mr. Trump has waited this long to propose tariffs here? It is simply because he has exhausted every other avenue to solving the crisis on our border. The leftists in this country think that vacuuming up 3rd-worlders is the only way they can ever regain power; and I concur. They have nothing to offer except free stuff and identity politics. They are all ideology all the time. For you to oppose our President is to throw in with them in their perfidious cause. And if they take over again, it will be lights out, game over. They will absolutely open up a reign of terror on the likes of you and me; don’t help them!
Don’t forget: the President was elected BY FAR on this border issue. His base is in full agreement with him. He just hasn’t had any help from anyone else; he needs us all, NOW.
You need to throw your support behind Mr. Trump; he is our only hope at this time. I think you know this. Please act like it. If not, I will switch my party affiliation to Republican just to primary you. I’ve been a Democrat for 53 consecutive years, so I don’t say this lightly.
PS to FReepers about my being a Dem. It’s true; but I’m really a DINO. I have maintained my old party affiliation mainly because it’s the only way to have a voice in county politics (sheriff, judges, assessors, County Attorney, etc), because our county is run by dems, and they mostly are pretty good.
Plus it sometimes gives me cred when making points such as this one, and in arguments (discussions) with ideological dems.

In the hundreds of postings here in Free Republic rarely is this brought up. It’s Known As Reciprocity. We should be treating anybody illegally crossing the Mexican border into the US the way the Mexican’s do;
Any American illegally .crossing into Mexico. Before being kicked out can get a heavy fine and possible imprisonment.
It’s time we consider illegal entry by any person who is a non Mexican citizen illegally entering the United States through the US Mexican border a defacto Mexican citizen with limited Mexican constitutional rights subject to their laws while transiting. As well as any Mexican citizen entering illegally exempting those who do so legally.
According to the Mexican constitution Americans legally in Mexico get a 2nd class treatment. Besides being unable to vote one must also be a citizen to own land and Mexico is very restrictive about granting citizenship. Because of that a US citizen besides not being able to vote,and cannot have title in their name to any land property in Mexico. It’s time the US should consider making that reciprocal.
Prohibit and fully legally enforce punishment to violators offering any illegal entrant employment, voting, and land ownership privileges .In other words the incentives to those thinking of sneakimg into this country are removed and those that do better expect expulsion no job no voting no landowning ..
