A man who threw a 5-year-old boy from a third-floor balcony in Minnesota's Mall of America was sentenced to nearly two decades in prison on Monday.

Judge Jeannice Reding sentenced Emmanuel Aranda, 24, to 19 years in prison, the maximum amount agreed upon in his plea deal after he pleaded guilty to throwing the young boy, Landen, from the mall's balcony.

If I were the boys’ father, I’d wait to he gets out in about 10 years for good behavior and put a bullet in his head fro about 400 yards.

See the old movie "Death Wish". Why wait 10 years? Plenty of similar creeps out there to do vigilante justice on.

"Emmanuel Aranda, 24, faces 19 years behind bars after admitting to grabbing little Landen Hoffmann, hefting him up and throwing him nearly 40 feet to the floor of the sprawling shopping center — leaving the child with head trauma and multiple broken bones.

Aranda previously told authorities that he’d chosen Landen at random, after going to the Minnesota mall “looking for someone to kill” in a rage fueled by years of rejection by women.

He nearly succeeded, but Landen’s family said two weeks after the nightmarish attack that their son was “alert and conscious” and no longer in critical condition. ...”

He’s scheduled to be sentenced on June 3...”

He tried to kill that child, and all he gets is 19 years! I hope he gets prison justice.

Why 19 instead of 20? They have a thing for odd numbers over there?

Bet you that does not happen.

The idea that inmates punish other inmates for crimes is mostly myth.

Your average gang banger is far more likely to give him a high five then to give him a toss.

The only people who are in danger are snitches.

Golden Nugget waitress had brush with Mall of America suspect: "I've never, ever been that frightened"

Amanda Granlund still vividly recalls that busy Sunday back in 2014 when a patron walked into her Golden Nugget restaurant in Ravenswood and ordered breakfast.

Nothing seemed amiss as Emmanuel Aranda sat quietly and finished his meal.

But then he asked restaurant staff for permission to call his bank after his card was declined, Granlund said.

Things quickly spiraled when a customer sitting at the counter asked a server in Spanish to be moved to a table because Aranda smelled so bad he couldn’t finish his meal.

“That’s when (Aranda) got up and he said, ‘I know what you just said. You said that I smell like s-—.’ And he picked up a plate and cracked him in the head with it,”...”

A self-described news junkie, Granlund said she heard about the attack on the news soon after it occurred last Friday, but she didn’t make the connection until Sunday when a co-worker mentioned the Golden Nugget incident.

“She said, ‘I heard on the news he has ties to Chicago and I believe they said the Golden Nugget.’

And I said, ‘Oh, my God! Wouldn’t that be crazy if it was the same guy we had in here?”

After seeing Aranda’s mug shot, she knew it was the same man.

A longtime server at the Golden Nugget on West Lawrence Avenue, Granlund said the incident with Aranda was the most harrowing she’d ever faced there.

“I’ve been here for 20 years at this particular location and I’ve never, ever been that frightened,” said Granlund, 42, the daughter of a former Chicago police officer.

After attacking the customer, Aranda quickly looked through his backpack and pulled out a knife, she said. “And he went to go stab the guy. And the guy was thankfully so thin that he was able to dodge (the blows).

He did it about four or five times.”

Aranda began running around the restaurant, brandishing the knife and yelling, “Someone’s gonna die,” Granlund said.

Some patrons ran for the kitchen while others put their children under tables to shield them.

Granlund’s boss was already on the phone with police and warned Aranda that officers were on their way, prompting Aranda to flee the restaurant.

Officers arrested Aranda a short time later.

I had to get in on this one. There’s nothing in this world that would be too bad for punishment of his crime. Although a millstone around his neck and thrown in the Challenger deep would be close.

The DOC will likely treat him as a high profile prisoner and keep him in protective custody (e.g. “the hole”). Prison administrators are adverse to being sued.

Not long or harsh enough.

That was attempted murder..... of a CHILD.

The human part of me thinks he ought to be tossed from the top of the Empire state building. Enough time to think about what he did on his way down and how that kid he tossed felt.

Look, no one would ever defend this mans despicable actions. But calling for vigilantism by recommending that the father resort to a vengeance murder or hoping that other prisoners would murder him is disgusting.

When our justice system fails us, that's what's going to happen.

He could easily be out in 5 to 7 years. In Texas, they let a child rapist sentenced to 30 years out in EIGHT!

>> Why plea it down to a lighter sentence? Oh yeah, to save the taxpayer money./sarc

Yeah, after all, they need the money for all those do-gooder defense lawyers...

To defend all those obviously guilty dirtbags that 100 years ago would have been tried, convicted and strung up within a month.
