Unfortunately, most of Germany’s U-boats (along with their tanks, guns, etc.) are in a sad state of repair and won’t work.

Putin must be laughing...

How many subs does Germany have? Seems that is very small number. 3?

Imagine the pressure under 5000 nautical miles of water.

The Third Reich put 800 U-boats to sea. 600 were lost.

The 1982 film “Das Boot” is still difficult to watch. But the Kriegsmarine was never short of volunteers. Different time.

I thought that was really deep.

Not as deep as 20,000 Leagues...

Das Boot

Still my favorite war movie. Great acting and directing. Claustraphobic, heroic, and tragic.

Did anyone bother to check the weather conditions during their operations? I would suspect that a submarine is more prone to the effects of surface waves bouncing and rolling them around and stay submerged to avoid those.

I first saw Das Boot in a theatre equipped with surround sound. As the sub hull began cracking under pressure, it sounded like the theatre building was getting ready to collapse. Nerve wracking. Great movie.

The 1982 film “Das Boot” is still difficult to watch. But the Kriegsmarine was never short of volunteers. Different time. ................................ I lost a great uncle in one, some where in the North Atlantic. But that was circa 1916. Das Boat is now a TV Drama Series, season one is over, season 2 is coming. It takes place from the end of the movie. It also spends time outside of the sub. Search the internet for it, its not yet available in the USA but its out there to see on your computer.

At last count, the Bundesmarine has six attack submarines in active service.
