A number of Republicans in the Senate are standing with President Donald Trump over his threat to apply tariffs to Mexico on Tuesday after several party members spoke out against it.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday that there is not much support in my conference for tariffs and he is hoping that the tariffs are not implemented. Other Senators also decided to speak out against Trumps threat.
Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney said he will not support applying a tariff to Mexico, saying he would not be inclined to vote [for] a tariff against a friend, Politico reported Tuesday.
Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford reportedly also criticized Trumps threat, saying the White House is trying to use tariffs to solve every problem but HIV and climate change. (RELATED: GOP Divided On Trumps Mexico Tariff Threat)
However, a number of Republicans are in favor of applying tariffs to Mexico, such as Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who said in a tweet Wednesday:
I dont generally like tariffs either. But what alternative do my GOP colleagues have to get #Mexico to secure its southern border, use the Isthmus of Tehuantepec to screen northbound rail cars & vehicles & act on intel we proved on human traffickers?

rubio? I’m shocked. He’s not even up for election this cycle.
Romney said we don’t do this to a “friend”.
But has Mexico really been acting like a friend for even the past decade?
NO!!
Trump doesn’t want to implement tariffs either, dumbasses.
Stand with Trump or resign!
MAGA - America First!
Fuerther proof if there needs to be any that Trump is getting hammered for everything he tries on all sides. The powers that be cannot stand an outsider and we the people voted in a guy who is really trying to make America great again. Mexico is not our amigos; they’re too corrupt from the cartels on up.
I think it was the past Mexican leader who said “We’re not going to pay for his f—ing wall.”
I will never forgive him for that, or Mexico for that.
Something about the vulgarity of that word as an insult to our President and us.
(My opinion plus $4.99 and tax will get a latte but it is my opinion.
I gave my senators offices an earful today. I called and let them know that until they come up width a viable alternative to Trumps tariffs, I expect them to support Trump
I know a guy who works for a MSM camera team. He follows the Presidents, SOS, any bigwig going abroad.
I said to him awhile back that neither side of the aisle care about the poor or the middle class. All they care about is the donor class.
His eye went large and he said “You get it!!”
Entrenched Washington has abandoned the American public.
Follow the money and the votes.
At least we made it past Alexander Fraser Tytler 200 years. But Khrushchev seems to be winning now.
Your opinion is worth more than you realize.
“”Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford reportedly also criticized Trumps threat, saying the White House is trying to use tariffs to solve every problem but HIV and climate change.””
Lankford was one with his head screwed on right - what happened to him? That remark is not just against tariffs but a slam/insult to the president’s work.
“They were part of some kind of Mexican Mormon cult compound.”
The Romney family moved to Mexico when polygamy was outlawed in the USA because it is not outlawed in Mexico. Nice.
That being said, no friend of Mittens is a friend of American citizens.

Well Mitch, there is not much support in the Republican base for your conference either. We’ve had enough of your duplicity and backstabbing the voters.
Like Slick Willy wasn’t in the pocket of the Chicoms, and his bitchy, evil harpy of a wife isn’t in the pocket of Ukrainians and Russians. Like Obama wasn’t actively helping Iran.
What “bidding” of Russia is Trump doing, anyway? The proof’s in the pudding, Maddow. Trump is the first POTUS in a long time to actually do the bidding of the American People for a change. Maybe congress critters on both sides of the aisle should follow his example.
This is not Romney’s first time having issues with adequate Friend or Foe identification.
At this point in time I’d have to ID Romney as a foe to America.
I also appreciate the post at #8...there are too many here who don’t realize or stop to acknowledge that they are not sitting among a bunch of tough guys in a bar somewhere where crudity is acceptable and normal and would think nothing of what the former president of Mexico said - not just the content but the vulgarity. Too prevalent in our society today!!
We just saw a thread from a loud mouth muslim congresswoman who cried because someone threatened her life. It was fine when we had to listen to the vulgarity she spewed about our president tho’, wasn’t it? I believe she was upset because she said she has two kids and she wants to go home to them. Apparently those kids mean so much to her that she didn’t mind using that gutter language in front of them to explain what she wanted to do to the president. BUT she has the right to FREE SPEECH, right? Man - I can’t keep up with this double standard - wears me out!
mexico is Romneys friend apparently, but is no friend to the US. they are a parasite

You can also call the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC). They raise money for senate campaigns.

The f-word is about as bad as it gets and only outdone by G.D.
I told grown men and women off for using it around my daughter when she was young and we were at the mall, etc.
