Ford has announced plans to close an engine plant in Wales, dealing yet another blow to a UK industry that is being ravaged by weak car sales and uncertainty over Brexit.
The US automaker said it would shutter its plant in Bridgend by September 2020, when a contract to supply engines to Jaguar Land Rover ends. Some 1,700 people work at the factory.
Ford (F) said Brexit did not influence its decision. But the company had previously warned that it may have to close plants if Britain leaves the European Union without protecting trade.

They can thank Theresa May for most of the fumbling and bumbling. She has fully accomplished her actual goals.
My official Stance now... F... the UK.
Foolishness
Hey...Cut them some slack. They got an Obama and now she is leaving. Remember us??
Also bear in mind that the alternative Prime Minister was an outright Marxist terrorist sympathiser who didn’t meet an enemy of Britain he didn’t like. Won’t be like that next time around.
An Indian car company buying engines from an American company to put in British cars.
The Monarchy will fall immediately after the Queen dies. I believe Megan Markle joined at exactly the WRONG time in history. Just my prediction.
Interesting timing.
75 year anniversary of D-Day.
The Mayor, Megan, the Balloon, Londonstan?
They are lost, we need to allow some selective immigration and write it off. It cannot be recovered.
I really see a global depression coming. I hate to say it because America is doing so well and Trump is actually trying to help America. But if you put together mass migration, massive national and global debt due to socialism, and the EU, monster that it is, unraveling, you have a recipe for disaster.
Their financial nosebleeds are plants or markets around the world that are not worth it, and many are in S.America, Europe, and other locals.
What??? And give up all of that tourist money from the changing of the guard?
By all means make a decisions on national freaking sovereignty based on one planned engine plant closing. Yes, how smart.
The math: .75/21.5 = 3.4% decline. Yes 3.4% GDP decline in one year would hurt but there is a domestic market for most of the goods we export. And this would be a worst case scenario.
If Im right and a global recession is coming, then Trumps economic decisions are prescient.
This particular one is not May’s fault (one of the few). As car manufacturers shift more of their operations out of the UK, the demand for Ford engines made in the UK has gone down (while demand for Ford engines made on the continent has gone up
the monarchy has been in a slow fall since the beheading of Charles 1 in 1639. Followed by parliament deciding the succession in 1688 and 1707 and then the lackadaisical attitude of William IV and wrapped up with Victoria’s withdrawal from politics.
The UK monarchy is a figurehead and cheaper than a President (a la the German or Indian President) for a parliamentary democracy.
Post liz II, Charles will become Charles II - he has no say in it - unless he dies before her (which is a possibility).
Megan Markle is married to #6 in line to the throne, so it doesn’t really matter one way or the other
Oh. I didn’t know that.
The UK market is too small to sustain on its own
Though the car industry isn't the be all and end all of everything
