how amusing, I watched an old TV series on Romes Military last night. One of the comments there was the living quaters of the soldiers, like today's barracks, the Romans also has barracks for the enlisted, the officers has "Homes" with family and palaces for the Generals. Just like today.
The amusing part relates to Toilets - The toilets were communal and had water channels running through them. The Romans used sponges to wipe their arsses and then washed the sponges in the water channels.
That's pretty civilized (and green)
The muzzards use their bare left hand, and then smear it on the wall in the alley.
