A Little Critical Thinking About "Foreign Dirt"
Vanity

Posted on 06/13/2019 9:33:49 PM PDT by Williams

It's very troubling so little critical analysis exists on this latest flap. We'd expect Democrats, aided by the media, to seize on any "issue" whether manufactured or real.

But I watched Romney, Collins, Graham all run to microphones to criticize the president's "mistake". Romney's statement was the most extreme and the most empty headed. He said something along the lines that accepting foreign information about a political opponent "undercuts the very basis of our democracy".

Zero explanation of why "listening" to a foreigner is in any way illegal (it isn't), or unethical, much less somehow damaging "our democracy".

A corollary to this made up crime of "listening" is the outrage about Trump saying he "wouldn't necessarily" call the FBI.

Ok, the question to the president was about hearing "dirt" and Stephanopoulos has stated the president was open to hearing foreign "information" about an opponent.

Now a little analysis. Why would anyone say you must call the FBI if a foreigner tells you dirt or information on an opponent?

"Dirt" is not necessarily a reference to crime. Dirt could be that your opponent is an alcoholic, or had an affair. It could simply be that your opponent told a foreign leader something that conflicts with the opponent's public policy positions.

Why then would anyone, even a RINO, state that it's wrong to "not necessarily" call the FBI? Call them to report your opponent is a liar?

Next. Let's say the foreign source did accuse your opponent of a crime. Why would the outrage be directed at Trump because he heard, let's say, that Joe Biden committed a crime? Wouldn't the potential outrage be directed at the criminal? Why would it be directed at someone who merely heard you are a criminal?

If Trump doesn't call the FBI, isn't he then protecting his opponent from the rumor?

If he uses the rumor, won't he use it publicly because after all, this is during an election? Wouldn't that by definition alert the FBI?

How is hearing an accusation about your opponent, whether you use it or not, wrongful? It isn't.

Next point, why would we insulate American politicians from information of criminality produced by foreigners? If a candidate goes to Russia and takes bribes, why would we discourage our finding out about that.

Now, all of this is now being spun as Trump encouraging foreign governments to "interfere in our elections". Is that what information is? Interference? Isn't it just an accusation of a crime?

Even if the "information" is somehow improper, Trump actually said he might throw the foreigner out if his office. That is not inviting "foreign influence".

Trump is president. He now runs the DOJ. If he heard about an opponent's scandal and didn't report it, wouldn't he be protecting his opponent?

The entire hypothetical and the reaction to Trump's statement is preposterous.

And, when Stephanopoulos said what if they offered you a stolen briefing book, Trump clearly said now you're changing it to a stolen briefing book, that's a different matter.

Of course foreign officials will tell Trump all kinds of things about his opponents. So what?

It's revolting that public officials did not listen to what the president actually said, and did not apply any intelligent analysis to this hypothetical.

And I'm not even addressing here that it's the Democrats, not Trump, who actually took dirt on Trump from the Russians.

I just heard some partisan on CNN claim "that was completely different" because "Americans went to the foreigners for information". Say what?

Biden already bragged that foreign leaders begged him to run because of all their concerns about Trump, which I assume they enumerated (if Biden was even telling the truth) . That is EXACTLY the kind of foreign influence they are claiming would be a crime if offered to Trump. Did Biden contact the FBI? Did he report the conversations as "illegal foreign campaign contributions"?

It's sad to witness the current dumbing down of America.

Romney will find out Obama spied on him and his campaign. Staffers and partisan hacks listened to him talk to his wife and kids.

He will probably thank the Obama administration for keeping an eye on him and curse Trump for revealing classified information....

the joke of it is: all these fake-ass career politicians would take whatever negative info was being offered; especially if they were losing in one of their pathetic campaigns.

Trump is the only one who is real and tells it like it is.

The rest are phony liars !

And let’s not forget, because the left would love it if we did, Trump was responding to a hypothetical. The closest thing to what he described that actually happened was Don Jr., not Sr., having that brief meeting with that Russian chick and walking out about 5 minutes into it. On the other hand reaching out to a foreign spy and paying him to find dirt on the opposition candidate was not a hypothetical. It actually occurred at the hands of Clinton.

To build a road you have to establish a base for it. Trump said he would listen, might refer it to the FBI, and maybe just kick the carrying party out of his office. Based laid, next comes the prep and shoulder work. The media gets hysterical. Barr and Durham show up with the evidence. When it looks nice then we bury it under asphalt.

Ive mentioned this before, on election night the Trump Tower get out the vote phone center was shut down by hackers who made the outgoing caller ID state the calls were being placed from Moscow. This was obviously done by the Clinton campaign as part of a Russia false flag. The Trump campaign has kept this quiet so far. I was told in great detail by someone who worked there every day for months and made thousands of calls for Trump.

I appreciate this post.

It’s amazing how little critical thinking is employed any more.

You can take it back an extra step to discover some hypocrisy and ask the question, how exactly do you know they are a foreigner?

Would that be because they have an accent?

Great tip, let’s pass this on to CBP so that when they encounter someone with a Latino accent in TX they should presume they are not a US citizen and act accordingly.
