A person helped keep the man suspected of firing several shots afloat after he fell in the water Sunday morning near the Hampton Yacht Club, according to a news release from Hampton police.
Dispatch received a call a little after 4 a.m. Sunday reporting shots fired in the 100 block of Linden Avenue. Officers determined that two men had been arguing inside a home when a single shot was fired. No one was injured and police said the man suspected of firing the gun fled the home.
Police found the man in the water at the Hampton Yacht Club, about two blocks away in the 4700 block of Victoria Boulevard, after several shots were reported in the area, according to the news release.
The man was arguing with a 62-year-old person when he fired several shots, police said. The victim then shot back at the man and he was hit several times, according to the release. The man fell in the water and the victim helped to keep him afloat until police arrived.

More of a Christian than I. Back in the early 1070s I lived and worked in Chicago. I often rode my bicycle along the Lake Michigan lake front on the near north side. Sometimes In thought of what I’d do if confronted by a potential mugger. Since most of such types were terrible swimmers, my theoretical solution was to grab the mugger, drag the both of us into a deep spot, if close by, and drown him. Other than that, I’d jump into the lake and challenge him to follow me in the hope I’d be able to grab him and drown him. Fortunately, nothing like that ever happened.
OMG!! I just marked myself as being more than 900 years old. Correct “1070s” to “1970s,”
Alternatiely, the shooter was kept afloat, in captivity if you will, until the cops arrived.
Out of the water, he would have fled
You think like I do.
The 1070’s was a rocking time to be a Norman in southern England.
Lots of things to think about BEFOREHAND if you are in a shooting situation.
In this case, consider that after having defended himself, victim then saves perp, but either one of two things happen. 1) perp dies anyway and then you have some smart ass prosecutor accusing you of taking actions after the defensive shooting to vengefully ‘kill’ the perp, or 2) perp recovers then claims you tried to drown him.
Our instinct is to help, but in this case, it may be a whole lot less aggravation to call 911 and ask for an ambulance and police, and then sit down and find your attorney’s telephone number.
Oh, for the good old days, having Saxon wenches as the “first fruits”, oppressing the peasants, attending weekly hangings, and hunting stags in Nottingham Forest.
(grins!)(Snicker, snicker)
I was going to ask if you were at the Battle of Hastings...
Wrong decision.
He should have held the shooter’s head under water, until he drowned.
Coward that I am and preferring peaceful rape and pillage to actually getting shot at, I came in afterwards to get rich and revel in the oppression of the Saxons.
Hi.
To me you look like 19 years old.
;^)
5.56mm
Well, at least it was in a foreign country... Such a ludicrous thing wouldn't happen in America...
Are you part raccoon?
You’ve gotten your money’s worth out of Social Security.
Doesn't look a day over 800.
I do get carded sometimes, even though I’m actually 976. It’s quite flattering. The old days of peaceful rape, pillage, oppression, weekly hangings, and an occasional hanging and quartering were really cool.
