Guerillas-—yes.
That was the joke. The 1960s Hell’s Angels heard the radio news stories of “guerillas” sabotaging or killing the Vietcong and assumed they were nicknamed “gorillas” because they fought like the animals.

My humor is sometimes so liable to misunderstanding that it disappears.

BTW, I knew several Hells Angels guys back in the ‘80s, and they were great patriotic people. (Although I guess that isn’t always the case.)
