Kurt is just awesome.
A well regulated Library, being necessary to the education of a free State, the right of the people to keep and read Books, shall not be infringed.
He is awesome. His twitter feed gets to be a little too much sometimes, but he’s always informative. You can tell when he’s hitting the booze and tweeting, though. Haha.
I heard him on the radio a while back. I like him. It’s ironic that after the shaking stopped after the Northridge quake I went back into my wrecked house to get my semi automatic rifle that I got right after the 92 riots. Civil unrest and looting is scarier than anything. A rifle and a bible calms the nerves.
Yes, this is what the country needs - former member of the Texas State Guard here
NOT the national Guard, but the state military department, and we would back up the active duty, reserve and national guard units when needed. My unit supported a fighter wing at Lackland AFB and was very active during Hurricane Harvey.
Moved away to OK, where they don’t have such a state guard (only 21 states still have an active militia like this) I miss it a lot
If you live in Texas, look into it - Gov Abbott wants to double the number so as to better react to diaasters.
My only point of disagreement is on the upper age limit the author uses in defining “militia”. I did’t become a sheeple just because I turned 65. I will also point out that with age comes greater understanding in the many ways of converting experience into ability.
There should be no limit except your own ability to pick up and shoot.
But either way, Swalwell and his cohorts can kiss my grits. d;^)
Even this article (which is pretty good) misses an important definition. “Regulated” also means “drilled” as in musketry. Loading, ramming, aiming and so forth. The whole manual of arms plus marching evolutions. The point is that the founders were practical men and they saw the militia as being a basic need of a local community — not the plaything of the federal or state government.
I’ve been arguing this for years.
There would be benefits in time of emergency as the militia could be “Called up” to patrol streets after a hurricane for example.
It takes the wind from the lie-beral sails
I see that Kurt has, like the Left, fallen into the fallacy that “well-regulated” means “subject to bureaucratic rules”, instead of its original meaning of “properly trained and equipped”.
Latin teacher here and I can explain. Rule here means the standard expected by regular troops. The problem with militia is that they show up poorly equipped with antique and sub standard weapons. See the use of standard there? Like the regulars the militia needs modern weapons. So well regulated means well equipped.
This state’s got one’ http://www.missourimilitia.com
Agree, older veterans/retired veterans bring a wealth of skills and knowledge, if they are unable to be trigger pullers they could assist in supporting roles.
Wrong in what way? Are you saying that “well-regulated” *does* mean “subject to bureaucratic rules”? Or do you mean that I’m wrong about Kurt? Or something else?
I’m In.
This is the simplest, most definitive explanation of the second amendment that can be found.
