Once I was driving thru the ‘hood on MLK Blvd. Stupidly stopped at a traffic light. A stray bullet punctured my tire.
Luckily I had a tow service programmed into my phone. Called, told ‘em where I was. They were there, had me hooked up & outta there within 90 seconds.

Nothing good happens after midnight, especially on MLK Blvd
Near where I grew up in Spring Valley, NY, the intersection of MLK Blvd. and Harriet Tubman Dr. is one of the most dangerous 'hoods in the Hudson Valley. I know Black people who'd be scared out of their wits to step foot anywhere near there.

Before the internet was big, I had to make an appointment at an office 80 miles away. I asked someone who was familiar with the area, if it was a safe neighborhood. “Well, once you get to inside the compund, you will be safe, but it’s off MLK Jr Freeway, and there is a fried chicken place next door, if that tells you anything”. I arrived at 7:30am and was done by 9:30am.

A conservative Black man, whose name has been co-opted by the Socialists For public purposes, yes, he registered Republican. But he ALWAYS privately identified himself as a Marxist, and his closest white lifelong friend was one of the very top officers of the Communist Party USA, who wrote most of his speeches for him.
He attended training seminars for socialist cadre, etc.
There are many photos of him doing so online.
A just cause, a gripping speaker, a real motivator?
