“WTF is a “paper straw????”

Waxed paper.

It was the straw of the sixties, and a cold thick McDonald’s milkshake would usually collapse them.

But they were fine for soft drinks stuff like that. In fact when you bought your milk in elementary school from the milk cart that came to each room you paid $0.02 for the milk and you got a paper straw to drink the milk out of the carton with.

Those were the days...

They used to have them back in the day.

And THAT, my friend really tells you my age.

I remember sipping milk shakes through them. If I remember right, they had some kind of wax coating on them which made them stiffer and more durable.

Back then, there was no such thing as softer plastic-or at least much of it. All the car dash boards were metal or some kind of fiber. The door knobs were metal, the door liners were metal covered in hard plastic or fiber-meaning special paper fiber, Etc.
