Pompeo...capture of British-flagged tanker: Up to ‘United Kingdom to take care of their ships’!

There is nothing in that area that is necessary to America and 99.999% of its citizens.

The UK has a Navy, Air Force, Marines and Specops, let them handle their problem.

Thank you President Trump.

Boris will get the ships back. Likely on his first day of office. Imo

The Brits that dragged us into WW1 & WW2. They will fight to the last American.

Send the Mayor of London to Iran to discuss this issue with his fellow Islamos.

Canada's contribution to the 'world fleet's set to counter the Iranians (as compared to HMCS Halifax).

Long term we need to develop our own resources as much as possible and then pull back from the Middle East and let “the world” ensure the supply of its oil. We’ll have ours so it’s not our problem.

A .50 caliber machine gun would work wonders on one of those fiber glass Iranian boats.

Once again, the weenie neoisolationists come out in droves on our Freerepublic!

1. The UK is a member of NATO. When one member is attacked, we’re all attacked.

2. While we were hiding behind our oceans (and some even seig heilling Adolph), Great Britain stood alone against the Nazis while their cities were being bombed mercilessly. We finally decided to get manly about 15 months later, after the heroic Brits and Russkis softened the enemy up.

I am heartily sick of hide-under-the-bed cowards posing as conservatives. Waiting around and letting others fight our known enemy is slimy.

It’s the Brits that dragged us into WW1 & WW2.

You know, taking a little bit of truth and inflating it into ridiculous hyperbole just makes one look like a loon.

I get that we don't want to commit ourselves to another ground war over the ME, but "the Brits dragged us into WWII?" Dec 7, 1941. Ring any bells?

Doesn’t a lot of Chinese oil go through the straight?

The U.S. has worked long and hard to become energy-independent, primarily to avoid being subject to the evil whims of evil oil-producing nations like Iran.

Britain has not taken the opportunity to begin accessing more oil from the U.S. and other friendly nations; instead, it continues to help the evil Iranian regime — the number one terrorist-sponsoring regime in the world — by buying its oil.

Unfortunately, the British no longer seem capable of functioning well enough to resolve their problems, for example, Brexit; and now their ships are being sunk in the Persian Gulf with no prospect of remedying the situation because their Tory government has not been able to choose an official functioning new prime minister.

Britain would not be an important nation if it were not still a center of wealth; so the solution for Britain is to
redirect some of its wealth to the friendly United States oil industry and away from the evil Iranians. If the British are not willing to do such a simple thing, they’re beyond hope.

NATO has been largely replaced by the EU.

That is so right. Take care of your own problems, England. And stop whining.

The Japanese don’t have much direct interest in the Persian Gulf and little Japanese flagged shipping goes through there, IIRC. However, they not only have been massively contributing to the anti-piracy patrols around Somalia, they have done so to a point where they built a base at Djibouti to keep units on station.

They have also been committed to anti-piracy patrols in the Indian Ocean and Pacific since 2010. It’s not like they haven’t been doing things.

Check the NATO treaty. It was written to avoid bringing the Euro members into our Vietnam conflict and coincidentally keep the US out of African colonial issues involving the Euros. These attacks took place outside of the area covered by the NATO Treaty.

It feels like the Twelvers are in charge and itching to rumble. It would be nice if we could send the leadership a nice gift consisting of a plain wood casket with the body of former Sen. and SecState Kerry and a silver glitter Brunswick bowling ball bag with his head inside. Is it just a coincidence or Divine Providence that the regulation bowling ball and the average human head each weigh 16 pounds?

Britain 1941 doesn’t exist anymore. Today, there is no need for US to be involved in a war with Iran. And May is no Winston Churchill. Churchill had respect for America and FDR. As we are learning, May has done everything to undermine Trump. She truly loathes Trump while at the same time hoping that her “Big Brother” will once again take on the neighborhood bully. Grow up! May has to fight her own fights.

1) Then let them invoke the NATO charter.

2) That was 75 years ago. Today, standing alone would be an achievement for the sorry Brits. More like lying on the couch hoping someone else will be dumb enough to stick their ***** in the meat grinder for them.

Too bad, so sad. If they won’t lift a finger to protect their own interests, then why should we lift one for them?
