FULL TITLE 'You're gonna kill me!': Dallas police body cam footage reveals the final minutes of Tony Timpa's life
Tony Timpa wailed and pleaded for help more than 30 times as Dallas police officers pinned his shoulders, knees and neck to the ground.
Youre gonna kill me! Youre gonna kill me! Youre gonna kill me!
After Timpa fell unconscious, the officers who had him in handcuffs assumed he was asleep and didnt confirm that he was breathing or feel for a pulse.
As precious minutes passed, the officers laughed and joked about waking Timpa up for school and making him waffles for breakfast.
Body camera footage obtained Tuesday by The Dallas Morning News shows first responders waited at least four minutes after Timpa became unresponsive to begin CPR. His nose was buried in the grass while officers claimed to hear him snoring -- apparently unaware that the unarmed man was drawing his last breaths.
The officers pinned his handcuffed arms behind his back for nearly 14 minutes and zip-tied his legs together. By the time he was loaded onto a gurney and put into an ambulance, the 32-year-old was dead.

The footage also shows the officers mocking Timpa as he struggled to live. Shortly after one officer ridicules Timpas repeated cries for help, an officer notes that he appears to be out cold.
They joke that hes merely asleep and try to wake him: Its time for school. Wake up!
One officer mimics a teen saying: I dont want to go to school! Five more minutes, Mom!
They joke about buying him new shoes for the first day of school and making him a special breakfast, laughing loudly.

Tony was a schizophrenic on crack.
Not up to us to decide, but a jury will. Just how much did Tony Timpa contribute to his own death. And how much blame belongs to the cops.
He just had violent confrontation with the police and they thought he suddenly fell asleep?
Strange story:
“Police responded to his 911 call for help. He died. What happened to Tony Timpa?”
Uhhh, lookin bad for cops on this one...
They just gave hima a large dose of versed to combat the crack high and agitation. It is a strong short acting drug that is sued to induce twilight sedation...
I don’t get it. Tony is a white guy. Why is the press bothering with this? White guys are a dime a dozen. Doesn’t fit the narrative at all.
Looks like murder to me. Face buried in the ground. You stop breathing. Murder. Horrifying that he’s the one that called 911 looking for help and this is the help he got.
Actually, he DIDN’T just have a violent confrontation with the police.
He was already cuffed and restrained by a private security guard even before the cops got there.
ping
I don’t see it that way.
I see the police attempting to calm the guy down after they’ve restrained him.
I also don’t understand why the autopsy calls this a “homicide” when the cause of death was cocaine (which no one forced him to take) and “the stress associated with physical restraint” (which he brought on himself by struggling with the police).
I do have to wonder why they would give a heavy sedative to a guy who’s obviously passed out and not struggling - but maybe that’s standard operating procedure in these cases, I don’t know.
I guess I just saw the video differently than you.
Let go a step further, and say he was a violent schizophrenic on crack. But wait. To be complete, we must say that he was a violent handcuffed schizophrenic on crack.
I dont know if Texas has a depraved indifference law, but that sure fits what those cops did here.
I wouldn’t call it murder. But I think there’s a case for involuntary manslaughter.
Having worked in a big city ER for 20+ years I've encountered more schizophrenics than I care to recall.Ditto crack addicts.
But I must admit that I can't recall ever having seen a schizophrenic on crack.
On reflection it's not hard for me to imagine such an individual being a nightmare of *epic* proportions.
The News obtained Dallas Police Department body camera footage after a three-year fight for records related to Timpas death.
Contrast this with how quickly the cops will produce footage when they know they are in the right.
All schizophrenic crack heads who call 911 because they know they are themselves in distress deserve to get what they get. At least he didn’t injure any officers.
They pinned his body to the ground until he died, it’s 100% on the cops.
BTW - sitting on people has the same effect. I’ve know idiots who thought it was funny to do this.
re: “Actually, he DIDNT just have a violent confrontation with the police.”
Never-mind the leg-kicks he gives the poh-leece?
Get real ...
This is not the first incident exhibiting stupidity and indifference the Dallas cops have been involved with and it will not be the last.
