...” They’ll not agree to trade fairly. They almost did once but walked away and reneged on the deal. They’ll do it again”.....

Which is exactly how they’ve worked it in NKorea for decades as they ARE N. Korea.

We’ll likely see the South China Sea heat up.

I belive there is internal dissention that is pushing for resolution. There is a Chinese businese business community that is not the communist government. They are likely giving input and warning of dire social conseuences if the economy goes to hell.

The warning is not a threat but an expression of genuine fear

Trumps in this for the long haul....China’s well aware of this and that he stands in their way of their ultimate goals of replacing the US on the world stage. Too bad the press is so stuck on stupid never getting the facts out on China’s true intentions and their activities throughout the world. China is nobodies ‘Friend’....

IMO it’s too late now.

Their capitulation just so happened to coincide with the Mexicans intercepting 25+ tons of fentanyl that originated from Shanghai. That's enough fentanyl to kill off every living soul in the USA. Just saying...

XI sees nations only as a means to his elite leaderships survival otherwise the Chinese people will revolt now they're accustomed to the gravy on their potatoes.....

Corporate CEO Retailers could bulk at loss of Chinese goods but I have to say they ship billions of narcotics in those shipments.... we’d be better off manufacturing products in our own country and cut out the inflow of Chinese factories narcotics they allow to be shipped here in phony merchandise containers .....they use a two prong attack....cheap products often filled with narcotics to kill our population and fake agreements they never keep.

Every day that this is unsettled....more and more production leaves China for Taiwan, Philippines, and Vietnam.

China is desperate to find a face saving solution that allows them to continue their "100 year plan" without actually giving up anything. Trump needs to stay the course and FORCE China to change. Unfortunately, he needs support from our "friends" to really bring China to heel. It took decades to create this monster, and it will soon be beyond our control.

“We will continue to .... protect intellectual property rights"

Now this is laughable. We really need to punish China for all of the PAST theft, while preventing any future theft.

I have spoken to several liberals although not Progressives who say the one good thing Trump has done is confront the Chinese over patents, trademarks, etc. When I had a vending license in the 1990s, I was amazed at the amount of knockoff Gucci and other high priced merchandise was available at the wholesale providers.

Heard somewhere the other day that China has lost over 2 million jobs within the last 3 months or so. There is no way this thing makes it to 2020.

“Calm” means China wants Trump to do it their way and then shut up.

I hope Trump keeps mashing the tariff button. An internal coup that helps Xi Jinping and wife meet a fate similar to Ceausescu's end would be a real bonus.

Yup - those are 7.62mm bullets kicking up dust and cinder block fragments.

[Well that would be a dagger to Elon and Tesla. Only the $160 a week slave Chinese labor in that new Chicom Gigaplant will allow him to balance the books worldwide.]

He can do that in Thailand, which has lower land and labor costs. If fact, I’m surprised he’s not already doing it there. Apple was running through its cash and losing money until it moved production to China. But the key wasn’t China specifically - it was the fact that, 20 years ago, when Apple made its move, China’s labor costs were 1/20 US labor costs. These days, that number for China* is more like 1/5 total US costs, where Thailand is currently close to 1/10.

* China has seen wages go up 41x in the 41 years it has been transitioning towards a market economy. That’s putting a crimp on its competitiveness as an investment destination. Many companies remain in China out of sheer inertia, the way many companies in the US continued US production until the sheer lopsidedness of Chinese costs vs US costs caused them to move to China, back when China was dirt cheap in the 90’s. These days, skyrocketing Chinese wages and rents + Trump’s tariffs are pushing both Chinese and foreign manufacturers to exit China for cheaper locales.

It's also a good sign the Deep State is losing and china realizes Trump might win in the next election.

You can be assured the Deep state has been convincing China Trump is only a one term president.
