As Dorian makes landfall on the Bahamas with winds of 185-mph, it is now the strongest hurricane to hit the Bahamas region in modern records. Only one storm in the Atlantic have ever exceeded a wind speed of 185-mph. President Trump warns it could be among the 'strongest' to hit in decades.

"Dorian has become the strongest hurricane in modern records for the northwestern Bahamas," the National Hurricane Center said on Sunday morning.

As of Sunday afternoon, Dorian was located over Great Abaco island in the Bahamas. The powerful Category 5 hurricane was packing winds of 185-mph with higher gusts over 220-mph as it made landfall.

My cousin was a meteorologist in the hurricane center down there during that storm. My Aunt was not happy about it.

If you see palm leaves ‘flapping’ the wind is already sufficient to have torn regular deciduous trees to shreds.

I’ve seen 10lb coconuts doing at least 125mph.

Hit the side window of a Corolla, went through and busted the door off the other side.

‘You should see all the idiot Democrats (redundant, I know) hoping that it hits Mar-a-Lago.’

as if the comments here would be any different if Obama’s home were in the path of the storm...

‘It is dangerous, but the hype is hard to take...has my mom panicking in Wilmington NC.’

I’m going to Oak Island at the end of this month, and I’m panicking...26 days out...

Wouldn’t it be crazy if Dorian went out to sea, and travelled north, up to Martha’s Vineyard?

What would the lefties be wishing for, then?

Is there a Category 6?

It's called a tornado.

It would be fate or irony, if it went up the coast and smashed into their new 14 million dollar estate.... but, I am sure they have a heck of an insurance policy, or one of their wacky lefty friends would buy them a new place.

‘What would the lefties be wishing for, then?’

who cares...? point is, wishing severe storm damage to someone’s home because of political disagreements is as puerile as it gets, regardless of the political impetus...

Yep-pretty far from the center and to the west of the storm...which is pretty tight. There was a station in the western eyewall sustained at 144 and gusting to 174...before it failed...in the WEAK SIDE OF THE STORM. As I said, I’ve seen I unflagged SFMR data in the 170 kt range. That will give you gusts to 220 at the surface. Any questions?
