(Sounds like a great way to start a long/bloody guerrilla war to me, as NOBODY that I know, including the individual GIs/police officers would “turn in” their semi-auto arms willingly.)

In point of fact, I suspect that the feds, if such a FOOLISH & UNCONSTITUTIONAL notion ever became law, would have difficulty finding State/local police who are willing to take on the task or even “cooperate with” federal authorities..
