A Virginia state judge ruled Wednesday that statues of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson that were at the center of 2017 protests must remain standing in Charlottesville, Va.
Circuit Judge Richard Moore ruled that Virginia state law prohibits moving war memorials and that moving the statues would break that law.
Moore issued a permanent injunction preventing the statues from being moved at the beginning of a trial over a lawsuit brought against the city by groups that wanted to preserve the statues.
People pressing for the statues to be moved argued it was wrong to celebrate generals who had fought to preserve slavery. But Moore seemed to argue that the statues themselves did not have such a meaning.

Hopefully we will see some reduced to tears, shouting out their grief.
Good news and victory for those who do not want the history of slavery, the Confederacy, and the Civil War to be forgotten.
Why would you HISTORY IS HISTORY, good or bad.
Good news. But this will be an ongoing battle.
If I recall correctly, Stacey Abrams in Georgia wanted to destroy the Bas relief carvings of Confederate generals on Stone Mountain of Georgia. And Mayor Landrieu in New Orleans had some civil war statues torn down in the middle of the night.
It’s becoming a mainstreamed liberal article of faith, that we should obliterate any history which doesn’t conform to today’s political correctness.
The radical left considers this a momentary setback.

Democrats lost the first Civil War and they lost the War Over the Statues.
The statues had been standing there through many previous Presidents including Obama without causing any problems at all. This was just another in the pathetic attempts by the hate Trump crowd on the left to gin up a problem where it didn’t exist. The original people that wanted to keep the statues were “good people” who needed to make a point. The neo-Nazis and Antifa crowd were interlopers that turned the whole event into a deadly circus that the media and Joe Biden exploited to damage Trump.
It’s not over until the 9th says its over.
As usual the left has everything wrong. Like the Taliban blowing up those Buddhist carvings in Afghanistan.
Personally, I have no use for Robert E. Lee. But I don’t advocate for destroying the memorial. Today the technology exists to make these memorials more interactive. Instead of trying to tear them down, what people should do is create a variety of different podcasts where visitors to the site - or anyone interested - can click on a QR code or a link and download any variety of different podcast/video lectures about the site, about Lee and Jackson, about the artist and the construction of the memorial etc from a variety of different speakers and perspectives.
Instead of trying to erase history, teach history! Don’t destroy, enhance! There are many things to learn about the man, the war, the history of the site, the artists who made it, the tools they used etc etc. The left is missing an opportunity to do some good and instead to try to just sweep things they don’t like out of existence. Wrong approach.

Note these dearest rights did not include slavery which Lee opposed, because Lincoln had already said at his first inauguration before Lee resigned his commission, “the Federal Government shall never interfere with the domestic institutions of the States, including that of persons held to service”. Lee’s determination, and that of most Southerners, was to resist the northern states if they attempted to use the federal government to impose their political aspirations through military occupation of the South.

Finally a judge with some common sense prevails. Leave the statues alone; they’re not hurting anything. It only came to the forefront of rightful indignation in the last few years when it became de rigueur to be offended by ANYTHING pertaining to the confederacy of 154+ years ago.
