Beto ORourke launched an expletive-fueled defense of his call Sunday to ban assault-style weapons and impose mandatory buybacks of AR-15s and AK-47s while also pushing back at critics including fellow 2020 Democrat Pete Buttigieg.
During last Thursdays presidential debate, the former Texas congressman said, Hell yes, were going to take your AR-15, your AK-47, and were not going to allow it to be used against your fellow Americans anymore. Three days later, ORourke appeared on NBC News Meet the Press, where host Chuck Todd pointed out that there was a lot of hand-wringing about the presidential contenders full-throated call on national TV for confiscating such rifles.
As ORourke has put the issue of gun violence at the center of his campaign effort, some fellow Democrats have chastised him and expressed concern that his statements may have made things harder for gun control supporters as they negotiate with President Trump on legislation to respond to this summers mass shootings.

They are insane. They would require me to get a background check before giving my grandson a .22 rifle for his birthday. What the hell kind of background check could be done for a ten year old? So would the fact none could be done mean he cant have it?
Bito O’Dork is about as macho as Freddie Mercury. At least Mercury was above-board in his role as a Prima Donna.
“Im not pro-gun but I support and understand the need for the Second Amendment.”
I don’t think you can be both.
Correct! It’s like a guitar string!

Tex Kennedy rear ends Peter eater.
Your coming to take it is the reason we HAVE a second amendment! You are no longer a fellow American; you are a domestic enemy. Make my day!
“Beto seems to think that using profanity is helping his image. Beto is dumb.”
Even over at DU they criticize his swearing.
We cuss in order to feel like were in control of a situation.
I think the poster meant he does not like guns personally but is ok with others having them and understands why we have a second amendment. Not a thing wrong with that position.
He knows he has no shot, but his goal is to be needed for an endorsement, in say, Texas? So he is simply going to the bottom of the barrel to get the skater, bong-hitting, Austin-ite type voters locked in for leverage.
He and Abortion Barbie are going to do a statewide tour of how to suck at elections in Texas.
Oh shi+! Here we go again with the spinning bullet AR super killer rifle.
These clowns ought to visit a deer check station this fall and check out the damage a little bigger "weapon of war" makes.
I think he’d have to be 18 to clear an FFL. That said, it’s as much about identifying a specific firearm, and who has it, as anything else.
re: not being pro-gun but support the Second Amendment. Of course it’s possible. I don’t want any US citizens to lose rights granted to them by the Constitution and its Amendments, even if they aren’t my personal priorities.
Agreed. ORourke and Buttiegeg are both playing up transgressive characteristics to appeal to voters. What I believe they dont understand is that transgressive characteristics are what voters decide to overlook if they are outweighed by other important factors like real accomplishments.
I am reminded of the old Celebrity Deathmatch show...
