Perhaps with a few exceptions we have not fought a war for the purpose of actually winning it since. Ww2. We flattened Dresden and nuked southern Japan off the face of the Earth. That is how you win wars. Period.

Levin is a neo-con now?

There is nothing neo-con about standing up to a legitimate threat to national security.

Just because the war in Iraq was a mistake doesn't mean the war in Afghanistan wasn't absolutely necessary.

Coddling Iran like Obama did isn't going to work. They can't be allowed to get nuclear weapons. Sure, let the Saudis, with our input, deal with Iran's attack on them. But, Levin is right that the Iranians can't be allowed to think they can get away with an attack on American interests.

Trump will get the blame if Iran ends up killing a significant number of Americans. If that happens, it will because he listened too much to Rand Paul.

The perpetrators of the 9/11 attack were in cahoots with Finsbury Mosque cell of al Mujahiroun...Saudi OPPOSITION.

Al-Muhajiroun (Arabic: المهاجرون‎, The Emigrants) is a militant Salafi jihadist network based in the United Kingdom. The founder of the group was Omar Bakri Muhammad, a Syrian who previously belonged to Hizb ut-Tahrir; he was not permitted to re-enter Britain after 2005. According to The London Times, the organisation has been linked to international terrorism, homophobia, and antisemitism. The group became notorious for its September 2002 conference, "The Magnificent 19", praising the September 11, 2001 attacks. The network mutates periodically so as to evade the law; it then operates under many different aliases. --- wikipedia

The Hamburg cell of which Egyptian lead hijacker Atta was a part was led by two Syrians, one a 'former' Syrian intelligence official.

The crap we are doing is not working.

Everything we wanted to accomplish in Afghanistan, we've accomplished -- removing the Taliban from power, installing a US friendly government and killing Osama Bin Laden and most of those responsible for 9/11.

Israel’s just a bit more vulnerable, due to their size.

And, YES, the risible impact of terror is less than the cost of all these wars.

We lost more Americans on 0/11 than in 17 years in Afghanistan.

And, going to war in Afghanistan, no doubt, has prevented more American lives from being lost in terrorist attacks.

Letting terrorist groups gain strength and have a base of operation to attacks this country and its interests isn't an option.

Keep in mind Islam has been around for 14 centuries.

Correct. And, Muslims have always sought to conquer the world. That isn't going to change. Thus, the reason, we need to assure Islamic terror groups and regimes aren't a national security threat.

How do the American losses on 9/11 and all subsequent terror attacks compare to all American losses in the dozen or so wars since?

We lost nearly 5,000 in Iraq alone. Over 1,500 in Afghanistan.

Somalia. Hell, half of Africa.

Syria.

Libya.

So many others.

Yes, Levin is a NeoCon & has been for decades. Whatever he believes benefits Israel is what he supports in foreign policy, at the cost of American blood & treasure.

Those here calling for nuking Iran sound like John Bolton & the character in Beneath the Planet of the Apes, who said: “May the Blessings of the Bomb Almighty, and the Fellowship of the Holy Fallout, descend upon us all. This day and forever more.”

So you are saying we are done in Afghanistan! I agree! Long past time to depart...we have had under 2K troops there for years and opium production is back at pre-war levels! ;-)

Oh crp, you sound so knowledgeable:

“To allow Iran to affect this worldwide commodity without any response is a sign of pathetic weakness and shortsightedness.”

So let Saudi Arabia do something. Get on the phone with them and get them to do what you want. Get back to us with what the ambassador says they will do.

We weren’t a part of this, so we have nothing to do. Besides, the US can be happy when Saudi Arabia is crippled because we make more money from oil when our competition is hurt.

Oh, and since you think the “world” is affected, be sure to contact all the other countries across the world to have them do what you want, too.

Amen to that. Let these heathens fight it out among themselves. Arabs and Iranians aren't known for any particularly notable fighting skill unless one considers sending teenagers out in mass charges against an entrenched position.

Our ships were being attacked by pirates, little thinker.

Oh, do be sure to show us how Iran killed thousands in the 9/11 towers (it was Saudi Arabia) and of how Iran killed our troops in both Gulf wars (it was Iraq).

You don’t know $#!+.

You'd prefer more civilians die here and abroad in Islamic terrorist attacks?

The Saudis, our dear friends, gave us 18 of the 9/11 hijackers, they also grew and supported ISIS as a strategic tool. Moreover, the easiest anti-terror measure we could take is to ban travel from most countries of the Mid-East and North Africa. Should have done that after 9/11, not what Bush/Obama wound up doing.

“So, let Saudi Arabia do something”.

They will. However, they will do so with help. We will be a part of that help. As we should be.

Besides. we make more money...Our oil companies will make more money.

Everyone else will be negatively affected. Every household paying more for gas and paying more for every product which relies on petroleum derivatives.

Every company whose products rely on petroleum dereivitives will either have their botton lines negatively affected which will drop their stock price hurting investors and 401k’s or they will raise their prices hurting consumers.

Your apparent inability to think the implications through is disturbing. There are as many ignorant, emotional people here on FreeRepublic as there are on Democrat Underground or, on PMSNBC. Unfortunately. Sad, but true.

Only 52 people were affected and they were returned.

So, tell us again how that means Iran killed more US citizens than any other country since the 70s?
