Following a ban on virtually all semi-automatic firearms, New Zealanders face 5 years in jail if they refuse to hand them in.
A France 24 report on the government’s new buyback scheme showed a line of gun owners willfully giving up their guns in response to the Christchurch massacre earlier this year.
This despite the fact that the shooter himself said in his own manifesto that provoking mass gunfiscation was one of his intended goals. Mission accomplished.

I’m not well traveled but I didn’t picture NZ as a dictatorship that would put a person in prison for 5 years for holding onto THEIR possessions.
I wouldn't be so fast to label New Zealanders as "sheep".

These weapons are unlikely to be confiscated by police because they don't know of their existence," Philippa Yasbek of Gun Control NZ admitted. "These will become black-market weapons if their owners choose not to comply with the law and become criminals instead.
It sounds like civil disobedience is alive and well in New Zealand.

If I recall, the NZ shooter wanted to provoke a civil war which would start in America. The way he wanted to do it was to get the left to start gun confiscations in the US.

Years ago, a lot of superich were talking of moving down to NZ to escape conflict in U.S.
