Realists know such a treaty only binds honest nations.

I've read many sci-fi novels on the premise of killer robots wiping out humanity. One of the early ones was that two opposing sides fought beyond the end of humanity, because their programming wouldn't permit them to stop fighting. Until they cloned a human, and asked him what should be done. He ended the fighting and assigned one side to the north half of Earth, and the other side to the south half. Robots can only do what they're told; not so with humans.

A robot will stick to a treaty. Humans won't.

That is NOT a robot.

On the show, she was a skin job, a toaster. And what a fine skin she has.

“The US must be first, and we must be best.”

no question about it ... far, far better to send our robots to war instead of our children, whether said robots are fighting other robots or children from other countries ...

Brad Smith: “ultimately will spread… to many countries”

yes, but only countries with advanced technologies and advanced industrial capabilities, so the other countries can go pound sand if they want to fight our robots in a war ...

It isn’t the robots in humanoid form that concern me.

What is truly a concern is small flying drones.

Imagine a small, even hand sized drone with it’s own autonomous control. This drone could contain facial recognition, targeting a particular individual, or it could be programmed to target any human it sees, or any other characteristic. These can be equipped with small explosive charges of a few grams. Fly it against your head and BANG.

Imagine this scenario: A swarm of these drones are released near a target. Some are programmed to blow a hole in the side of a building...let’s say a school. Then the rest are programmed to go through the hole and attack any humans they find inside. It would be like a swarm of angry hornets, only these hornets are armed and are looking specifically to kill people.

All of this is doable today just by combining the necessary and already available technologies.

All that tech is here today.

ALL of it.

And you are right, it’s the airborne robots we have to worry about, they’ll carry C4.

Glad I’m old. Maybe I’ll be gone before I have to worry about this.

That experience sounds like insanity to any iPad user....

Microsoft has never learned how to build quality or enjoyment (never mind delight) into their computing experience, even given 4+ decades...

Sad! ;-)

... or develop the reboot of death after a mandatory update ...

The blue screen of death takes on a new meaning.

Personally, I do not think the armed drones are as much of a threat as one that might be carrying biologicals.

I figure they'd find you initially by homing in on your phone, because they don't need line of sight.

No doubt these creatures already exist.

Arm up. Bigly.
