So why should police have any say over whether a law-abiding citizen gets a permit?

Better, than if he hadn’t gotten it, even after such a contribution.

Prior to 2001, in Detroit it was almost impossible to get a CPL unless you had political connections. Fortunately that’s when Michigan became a shall issue state......

I guess I am a little confused over why this is even being talked about. In California being a political contributor entitles you to kill up to two homeless people by injecting them with methamphetamines. For $45,000 I’d think they would supply him with a stack of blank carry permits and the requisite homeless men and the drugs required to kill them.

This is my county and NO ONE get a permit *unless* you are a judge or big time contributor.
I know of one such ‘contributor’ who kidnapped a guy cheating with his wife. Held him hostage for 2 days and paid him to ‘leave town’.
The guy pleads 4-5 felonies down to simple assault and retains his permit to this day.
You have fewer rights when you live in Californias big cities.

Article consists of a grand total 122 words (143 if you count 21 words that give the SF Chronicle's standard boilerplate language about using anonymous sources) and required the attentions of three authors: Josh Koehn, Matthias Gafni, and Joaquin Palomino.
Article shows a seven-year-old picture of Sheriff Laurie Smith. Article contains a link to another article, which turns out to be a link to itself.
Article contains this information:
- The person who got the permit is a "manager" for a security firm that provides bodyguards for Silicon Valley executives.
- The Santa Clara County DA's office is investigating other pay-for-play activity concerning gun permits stemming from Sheriff Smith's reelection campaign of 2018.
- Three search warrants have been served so far.
- Evidence was seized from Sheriff's headquarters in San Jose.
- Evidence was obtained from searches done of the Sheriff's office and from two "higher ranking" supervisors who work under her.

Lock them both up. If parents go to jail for tax evasion, conspiracy and money laundering, these people need to do serious time.

I know the cost of living is high in California, but $45,000 for a gun permit seems excessive.

I gather then, that $45k is the going price for a concealed carry permit in Santa Clara County ?

This is Standard Procedure with Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, but the DA is also corrupt so nothing will ever be done about it.

Hey, if you're forced to carry around large amounts of cash (often the case when "pay-to-play" Democrats are in charge), guess what? You NEED a concealed carry permit! It's only fair!

That summary doesn’t cite the reason why that contributor should not have been given a CGP.
