Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was reportedly absent from the bench Monday as the court reconvened for its new term.

Chief Justice John Roberts said in his opening remarks that Thomas was "indisposed" due to an illness but said the conservative judge would still be participating in deciding the three cases the court is hearing arguments about, according to Reuters.

Details of Thomas's illness were not immediately disclosed.

How long before the demokkkommies start screaming that if he can’t be present he shouldn’t be addressing any cases appearing before the SCOTUS? Regardless of the that fact the notorious rgb could apparently issue opinions while under anesthesia. Show of hands.......

I hope he recovers quickly.

However, if he were to step down, it would be great if Trump could appoint a very young replacement with a similar judicial philosophy.

That man seriously needs a food taster, and a Berkey water filter. The Demonrats got Scalia. Surely FReepers don’t think they are above getting rid of Thomas?

There’s no way the Democrats and Never Trumpers will let Trump name a replacement. They’ll say he is under impeachment proceedings (even tho’ he is not) and/or use the excuse that it’s too close to an election year.

If Senators who are running for President were smart, they would hope that Clarence Thomas returns to the court before the next debate so that they wouldn’t be asked about Thomas. They already embarrassed themselves with the Brett Kavanaugh fiasco.

I’d rather speculate about the illness. Lower intestinal distress would certainly keep me off the bench. Next?

They got Scalia when they thought Barry would appoint his replacement. They don’t want Trump to get another SCOTUS pick. I have often thought that as good as Thomas is, he should allow Trump to pick his younger replacement.

Back in the days of the Soviet Union, missing something due to illness meant State Funeral.

Actually they wouldn’t. Replacing a hardcore conservative with another would be expected.

Oh, come on. It meant nothing like that!

What it DID mean was there was sure to be a plywood cutout of you complete with moving arm at the May Day parade in Moscow!

>> Replacing a hardcore conservative with another would be expected. <<

But oodles of FReepers "explained" to me that Trump "had to" replace Scalia with the squishy unknown Gorsuch because the Senate would "never" confirm an unabashedly pro-life hard-core conservative Scalia-type judge (even though the Senate was solidly controlled by Republicans at the time so such a judge would be confirmed even if EVERY DemonRat Senator voted no, and George W. Bush had problem getting Alito confirmed instead of the questionably conservative Harriet Miers, back when conservatives cared about that sort of thing...)
