What Successful Women Should Know about Love and Marriage

Successful women face special barriers in love and marriage, according to one relationship coach. But that doesn’t mean they can’t still strive for a happily ever after.

On October 9, the Washington Examiner published an opinion piece on, “Why super-successful women struggle in love.” Relationship expert and author Suzanne Venker claimed that “few, if any, women” can have both “power in the world” and “power in bed.” While she backed up her arguments, her piece left something to be desired by women: encouragement.

Venker began by referencing a Wall Street Journal piece, arguing that “As women have become more and more rich, love has indeed become more and more elusive.”

She pointed to an email about one of the women dealing with this very problem – written by the woman’s mother.

“I’d like to talk to you about my daughter who’s a high achiever,” the mom began. “She’s a thirty-eight-year-old, well-educated (two Ivy League schools), creative, intelligent, sophisticated, loving, successful, attractive, with a model-like body, and surprisingly can’t find a desired partner.”

While previously “she wasted many years on several senseless relationships,” her daughter is “extremely unhappy that she doesn’t have a partner,” or children.

In response, Venker urged that not only do successful single women struggle, but also women who serve as the primary breadwinner. There are many reasons why “love becomes a struggle the more successful women become,” she said, including the “pursuit of a post-secondary education and career.”

“Jumping in full throttle and making work the center of one’s life, as young women are encouraged to do, invariably means this group will be unable to take advantage of their greatest marital bargaining power,” she said.

That main “bargaining power” appeared to be beauty.

Make her earn your affections and let her know subtlety she can be replaced if she ignores you, plays games or abuses you. I did this and it worked, I was chased, not the other way around.

Women say they want a man who has "inner strength". A man who allows his woman to treat him badly, fails the test for inner strength.

The kind of man who women desire, has options, and the willingness to exercise his options if he's not being treated right.

she wasted many years on several senseless relationships,

There are requirements for the different stages of a relationship. The commitment stage requires projecting into the future and anticipating whether or not satisfaction of long-term criteria will occur in a marriage. This requires present-to-future cause-effect judgments in order to make a decision about commitment. It looks like she or her boyfriends could not satisfy each other's criteria and expectations, and did not believe in the possibility of change, and felt compelled to break up.

“...but I’ve found that when a man hears there’ll be no sex before marriage, he sees a senseless relationship and a waste of his time. And depending on his level of education he sees either a religious zealot or a whack job or a lesbian-in-denial.”

And I have found that men like this are nut jobs with insatiable sexual needs who are far from a godly man.

To such men: Enjoy Hell.

All this talk omits the fact that women have long hair so they can be drug to the back of the cave to have sex

Men are wired to be most attracted to women who are healthy, physically-fit, and fertile.

Long lustrous hair is an indicator of health.

Women think that since for a woman, sex=relationship, and “ready to commit”, that she is actually capable of landing any guy she sleeps with.
Wrong.
Guys use attractive women whom they don’t intend to marry, as bragging rights to other men.

Yeah, and these days we have drag queen story time for little kids with with touchy feely dancing and wallowing on floor with the drag queen.

And sex ed in school moved from where babies come from and STD awareness to abusive acts worship instruction.

Doesn’t make it right.

I’ve known these lyrics since the ‘70’s when I became a teen... who could have ever known how prescient Steppenwolf lyrics would become in application to today’s “issues”?... And ironically, most of the lyrics describe how liberal demoRAT mentality would evolve. ‘You want to get a handle on why liberal demoRATS are so stupid today?... I highly recommend that you go back and listen to the band.

Everybody’s Next One

Steppenwolf

She’s all alone, just lost another one
Met him yesterday and he’s already gone
And though tonight she’ll swear it was the last time
A smiling face will come that knows the right line
And then she’ll do all the right things with the wrong guy
And when he’s gone, next day she’ll sit and wonder why.

She doesn’t know why she’s everybody’s next one
‘Cause she’s afraid that the truth is gonna hurt some
All the pity in the world ain’t gonna help none
She has to realize that to keep one, her ways have to change some.

She tries too hard and she comes on too strong
Digs herself too much and thinks she can’t be wrong
She’s too impressed by things that do not matter
To be the Queen of hearts is what she’s after
And then she’ll do all the right things with the wrong guy
And when he’s gone, next day she’ll sit and wonder why.

She doesn’t know why she’s everybody’s next one
‘Cause she’s afraid that the truth is gonna hurt some
All the pity in the world ain’t gonna help none
She has to realize that to keep one, her ways have to change some.

John Kay is a smart guy. While other Steppenwolf members were getting stone, he secured the publishing rights to their songs.

He was actually born in East Germany, so he knows the horrors of Communism.

Re #4: I know a Miss America top-ten contender.
Her husband is very happy.
They have 7 kids, she stays at home, she homeschools half the kids and rest are in private school. Gorgeous? yes - and devoted to family-first values.
Did I mention he’s happy? and her too?

Excellent response. The mother needed to stop at “38 year old”. Men don’t find old women attractive. It’s nature.

It seems that she prioritized marriage dead last, after "useless relationships", "two Ivy League Schools", etc.

Now, at 38 which is about 15 years past her prime and a good 10 years after "hitting the wall", she's surprised that she can't find a husband.

Like the mom, maybe her daughter goes around telling every man she meets that she’s been to not one, but TWO Ivy League schools.

You expect your school and public library to be safe places for children.

You wouldn’t take them to a local bar.

Therefore you probably should not bring them to an internet forum that’s dedicated to free speech.

Sooner or later somebody WILL say something to offend, I assure you.

28 is the wall???? Silly. 30 year old women have no problem finding men to partner with. I don’t know what planet you live on. Women pick men. Not the other way around.
