What Successful Women Should Know about Love and Marriage

Successful women face special barriers in love and marriage, according to one relationship coach. But that doesn’t mean they can’t still strive for a happily ever after.

On October 9, the Washington Examiner published an opinion piece on, “Why super-successful women struggle in love.” Relationship expert and author Suzanne Venker claimed that “few, if any, women” can have both “power in the world” and “power in bed.” While she backed up her arguments, her piece left something to be desired by women: encouragement.

Venker began by referencing a Wall Street Journal piece, arguing that “As women have become more and more rich, love has indeed become more and more elusive.”

She pointed to an email about one of the women dealing with this very problem – written by the woman’s mother.

“I’d like to talk to you about my daughter who’s a high achiever,” the mom began. “She’s a thirty-eight-year-old, well-educated (two Ivy League schools), creative, intelligent, sophisticated, loving, successful, attractive, with a model-like body, and surprisingly can’t find a desired partner.”

While previously “she wasted many years on several senseless relationships,” her daughter is “extremely unhappy that she doesn’t have a partner,” or children.

In response, Venker urged that not only do successful single women struggle, but also women who serve as the primary breadwinner. There are many reasons why “love becomes a struggle the more successful women become,” she said, including the “pursuit of a post-secondary education and career.”

“Jumping in full throttle and making work the center of one’s life, as young women are encouraged to do, invariably means this group will be unable to take advantage of their greatest marital bargaining power,” she said.

That main “bargaining power” appeared to be beauty.

One line in the story pissed me off. “A woman’s attractiveness peaks in her twenties”. Pure unequivocal BS. I have seen MANY beautiful women well into their 30s and in many cases they have the greater beauty of the fully mature female over the youthful beauty of twenty somethings.

While some women may be more beautiful at 38 then at 25, most of the time it's the other way around.

Also, it's not "beauty" but "attractiveness". A woman who has most of her child-bearing years ahead of her will get more male attention than one who has her child-bearing years behind her.

Yes I did, along with the cheesy cat art.

The whole picture just gets worse the longer you look at it. She’s a wreck.

I’m lucky. My wife of 30 years understands me. She knows I can have a thin skin and struggle with criticism, even when it is completely valid, so she tries to tell me things as she sees them.

I will say this, she doesn’t play head games, but...she doesn’t forget ANYTHING! (So, I am glad she doesn’t play those games!)

Those women have probably made marriage a priority (and I mean marriage, not endless dating and living together situations), which is what many of us here are saying women must do.

Variation:
“If you can’t handle me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best.”
Well...then your best darned well better be worth putting up with that worst.

Marylin Monroe was reportedly a b to put up with.
Men put up with her because she was, well, Marylin Monroe.

I know plenty of guys who are blue collar, who women trip over themselves to date. Why because they are interesting, in-shape, sexual, well read, confident.

I'm talking about who women are willing to MARRY.

Yes, screwing the gardener or the handsome pool boy is a thing that women do, but they don't generally marry one and bring him around to meet their friends.

“can’t find a desired partner”

There’s the problem. It’s not that she can’t find a partner, it’s that she can’t find a desired partner. No man is good enough for her.

“She’s a thirty-eight-year-old..."

She was supposed to leave the Dating Freeway at Exit 23, where there were an abundance of luxury hotels and large Airbnb homes on the golf course waiting for her. Driving that road is fun, perhaps, but by Exit 38, she is too close to downtown, and if she exits here her best option is a Motel 6 in the ghetto. :)

And it shows an insane lack of self awareness to have discriminated against men in education and employment, then say women are the victims that there aren’t enough good enough guys.

There is also the incredible level of hypergamy going on. Women on dating apps are fighting over the top 20% and refuse to consider decent middle class guys who aren’t perfect on looks and aren’t in the top quintile of income because they see (to them) so many better choices.

If you were in a smaller community, your choices are obvious, and when alpha and beta are taken, you start looking at the next available options.

Yup, and you can bet your bippy her bed is full of cat hair.
