IRS Complaint Filed Against Wife of Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD)

National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) today filed a Complaint with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) against the Center for Global Policy Solutions (CGPS), a 501(c)(3) organization headed by Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, wife to Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD).

Mrs. Cummings is currently Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party and is a former candidate for Governor. Rep. Cummings is Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform.

The Complaint describes a score of apparent Internal Revenue Code violations, including prohibited private benefit and inurement of the Cummings. CGPS has received millions in grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and, in late 2017, was granted a million-dollar contract from the General Services Administration. The funds were purportedly provided to fight childhood obesity. The Complaint asks the IRS to investigate whether “its organizers are getting fat off the grants.”

At the same time she heads CGPS, Mrs. Cummings heads a for-profit consulting firm called Global Policy Solutions, LLC, whose operations appear to have been indistinguishable from those of CGPS. The two entities have shared office space, telephones, etc., all of which are flagrant violations of the Internal Revenue Code.

Another of the cited violations is a failure to provide or disclose a copy of IRS Form 990 when requested. According to Tom Anderson, director of NLPC’s Government Integrity Project, who uncovered the violations, “Rep. Cummings is demanding President Trump’s tax returns and financial records. It looks like he has some tax problems of his own.”

Thanks for the details, Brown Deer. So a complaint was filed 5 months ago. If she was a Republican, she would be well into her sentence now. Clearly, she knows the charges are going nowhere.

I watched a documentary called Kleptocrats and it was exactly this sort of thing although it was not in the US. When I watched it I though this is exactly what politicians do here why are they not in jail.

A Black Republican ran in 2014 and 2016, and managed to get as high as 27% in that first election (less than 22% in ‘16). Although a racially-gerrymandered district (thanks to the VRA), it hasn’t elected a Republican from central Baltimore since 1942, and then with considerably different demographics.

Cummings was not old... was he sick? He was into getting Trump out of the White House.... He spent the last 3 years of his life bucking Trump voters.

Yes, very. Hidden by the press, but he had been in very poor health for some time, recently had surgery, and had to walk with a walker.

Did the Almighty remove him? Maybe. I do think the hand of God has protected our President. Despite that Cummings will be replaced on the Oversight committee by a like-minded individual, it is bound to slow the nasty scoundrels a bit.

Ummm, no. Sorry. The district is D+26 and is one of the safest RAT districts in the nation. They would elect the BTK Killer to Congress if he got on the ballot with a "D" next to his name.

Although the GOP could have a little fun here if they found ANOTHER guy named "Elijah Cummings" and got him on the ballot as the GOP nominee...
