PG&E Warns of Potential Second Planned California Blackout
Wall Street Journal ^ | October 21, 2019 | Alejandro Lazo

SAN FRANCISCO—Californians are facing a potential second round of pre-emptive power outages, with the state’s largest utility working to prevent its equipment from sparking wildfires as hot, gusty winds are forecast later this week.

PG&E Corp. said Monday it might cut electricity to parts of 16 counties in the Sierra Foothills and north of San Francisco. About 200,000 households and businesses were notified that they might lose power starting late Wednesday, the bankrupt utility said.

At a press conference, PG&E Chief Executive Bill Johnson said shutting off power to hundreds of thousands of customers again might be necessary, given how much of its service area is considered under high fire risk by state authorities.

“We are really dealing with a new reality here,” Mr. Johnson said. “It is certainly not a tool we like to use. It runs against the grain of why most of us ever got into this business, and we do understand it creates hardship and comes with its own potential safety issues.”

Earlier this month, California’s largest utility cut power to nearly 750,000 customers in a vast swath of the state from south of San Francisco to the Oregon border, generating widespread criticism from the public and politicians for poor communication before and during the blackout.

On Monday, PG&E said it would work to insure any outages would be less disruptive by coordinating better with local governments and customers. Mr. Johnson defended the large power cutoffs earlier this month as the right move.

“If you look at where the damage occurred on the system, it’s exactly in the areas where we turned off the power,” he said.

It won’t be long before there’s no toilet paper in California.

Except for those who have relatives in Venezuela who can spare them some of theirs.

Americans must come to understand the real consequences of the anti carbon fuel, lunatic green crusade.

The planned blackout is smaller in area (nowhere near as many people are expected to be impacted) and time (red flag conditions are forecasted to last from late Wednesday night to midday Thursday).

Over the past years, the majority of the population has primarily elected liberal socialist/communist politicians that had/have an “agenda” that doesn’t include them. Now, the population is reaping the whirlwind of what it voted for. The very same greedy political types are now bellyaching about the long-term results of their “agenda”.
Liberalism is a freaking mental disease.
Pray for the conservatives in that communist-infested hellhole...they didn’t vote for that crap but are entangled in it. Many cannot escape by “just packing up and leaving”.

“Many cannot escape by “just packing up and leaving”.”

That’s what I thought about NY, until I did.

Few people can’t move away. Yes there may be a steep familial or financial price, but the option is there vs living in sociopolitical he11.

California’s leaders should be focusing on how to make all customers safe and at the same time always have power. The focus ought to be on a solution, not blame.

“...That’s what I thought about NY, until I did.....”
ctdonath2, did NY make you pay an “exit tax” when you left?
If they did and you don’t mind sharing, how did they force it on you and how much was it?

Why not just end electricity in California? Reduce the danger of "sparking wildfires" to zero.

Those wildfires could be prevented if there wasn’t so much regulation.

California’s leaders should be focusing on how to make all customers safe

What leaders? You mean Governor Gruesome and his minions in Sack-a-tomatoes? They're more interested in wasting more money on making sure our illegal invaders from the south are nice and comfy here!

Tax paying U.S. citizens and legal visitors? To he11 with them, as long as we keep paying our tithe to those "in charge".

No “exit tax”, and I’d expect such nonsense be unconstitutional.

However, a mundane speeding ticket acquired later (11 over in a remote upstate area) turned into a $500 multi-part reaming based on threats of “if you don’t pay up and are caught driving in NY again you’ll be arrested”.

They also demanded license plates be returned (at own cost) under similar threats.

This will be our fifth #PSPS since June here in Butte County. The Headline is wrong. Dumbass Journalists can’t even do a modicum of research. Now it is the second #PSPS for parts of the Bay Area, but I suppose us rural folks just don’t matter.

I guess we will charge all the radios and get the genny ready once again...Jeez...

I’m waiting for the Kali media to start praising the government for announcing when the power goes on, rather than condemning it when they turn power off.
