The states with the largest share of their populations speaking a foreign language at home in 2018 were California (45 percent), Texas (36 percent), New Mexico (34 percent), New Jersey (32 percent), New York and Nevada (each 31 percent), Florida (30 percent), Arizona and Hawaii (each 28 percent), and Massachusetts (24 percent).

A cultural catastrophe that could have been easily avoided.

Is that instead of English or as well as English?
I'd rather the Immigration Act of 1965 be revoked. This is the problem.
Exactly. This is misleading.
I speak Italian at home all the time. It’s not the primary language to be sure. But this article doesn’t say that, nor does it say that it’s Spanish, which I suppose is implied.
Speaking more than one language is a good thing and is only tangentially related to immigration.
I know many people that speak Portuguese, Serbian, Lithuanian, Italian and yes, Spanish. It’s not a bad thing.
Poor immigration laws are a bad thing.
Nothing wrong with multi linguality at all.
By itself this number doesn’t mean much. Some of my grandparents spoke foreign languages when they didn’t want the kids to know what they were saying.
The grandparents knew English because the great-grandparents were too old and/or too busy to learn much, and relied on their young to pick it up in school.
I’m just worried that someday my kids are going to need to know Chinese.
We need to curtail immigration for 50 years like we did before.

It means that the “language of choice” in a home is NOT English.
The Census Bureau has been publishing this exact same survey since the 1800s.
The Census Bureau also tests for English language competence.
I don't have time to search for the exact number, but most USA homes that choose not to speak English also have very low English language competence.
They should bring up the video of when Obama was asked about English as our National Language and he said, ‘well, maybe your kids should be learning Spanish!\’!

On the contrary, like no other wave of immigration in history, these are people who refuse to assimilate, spit on unity and nationality, and are determined to carve out nations of their own on American soil that NO ONE in their families ever had anything to do with.
The United States were in “need” of NO immigrants in 1965 when we were the pre-eminent nation on the planet. It was a settled country and the populace had shown that the freedom they had created led to unparalleled heights.
But instead tens of millions of culturally and genetically alien people were let in, many from countries that were our sworn enemies - Mexico and China primarily. The former believes this is “their” land simply because the Pope declared it so in 1495, and from the latter we get angry Communists educated to believe that the Round Eye is a devil on foot. But hey, they deserve to be able to mine Gold Mountain.
Repeal the 1965 immigration act, go back to national origins of 1924, seal the border with Mexico before the entire country becomes Calizuela with armed narco-militias roaming the Fruited Plains, end birthright citizenship for illegals and people on temporary visas, and repeal EO 13166 which forces multilinguality on the nation.
Yes, English should be our national language. Documents, ballots, etc. Period.

Yep, no more Press 1 for English. No more government printed forms in anything BUT ENGLISH. No more translators. My sister and daughter in law teach in large public schools, they have to have translators! Ridiculous. Learn it or leave the country, I don’t care that they are “children”, sorry no sympathy/patience/concerns. The little Middle Eastern boys are the worst! So disrespectful to my daughter in law, she said that they literally look at her with disdain in their eyes and say that they don’t have to do what she says!

When I was a kid I had lots of friends in school whose families spoke Italian at home. They did speak English everyplace else and were fully assimilated in every way.
