California Fires Live Updates: New Blaze Threatens Reagan Library
NY Times ^ | 10-30-2019 | Tim Arango & etc.

A fast-moving brush fire that was touched off early Wednesday burned its way to about a hundred yards from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, forcing evacuations in the area.

Police and fire vehicles could be seen surrounding the library compound in the morning, and helicopters flew low overhead, dropping water and fire retardant on the flames. Heavy winds gusting to more than 60 miles an hour made it difficult to walk at times, and tumbled over museum signs that had been weighted with sandbags.

The blaze, named the Easy fire, grew quickly to cover 972 acres — doubling in size in just over an hour — and led local officials to order evacuations for parts of two communities, Simi Valley and Moorpark, in the southern part of Ventura County.

Eric Tennessen, chief of the Ventura County Sheriff’s office, said deputies were knocking on doors and escorting people to safety. The evacuation area consists mainly of ranches, farms and a golf course, and is not densely populated, Chief Tennessen said.

Video from local news outlets showed smoke billowing from several distinct parts of the fire along hilltops, with the flames fanned by the wind as the sun rose. The fire approached the presidential library, which houses memorabilia including a former Air Force One aircraft, but as of about 9 a.m., firefighters were keeping the flames away from the library complex.

Later in the morning, flames could be seen approaching suburban neighborhoods nearby.

New Blaze Threatens Reagan Library

These fires know where all the well known venues are...The other day it was Getty being threatened...In reality it's all about the media using these type of headlines to gin up their hit numbers.

Some fires in the past have been arson. Wasn’t one caused deliberately by a forest ranger (as opposed to illegal squatters)?

I suspect Mr. Trump will be one of the last American Presidents to establish a large tribute library.
There are other ways to create monuments, and we are running out of room. It won’t be ‘affordable housing’ but some sort of housing is the likely outcome. Think Malibu.

The Reagan Library is not in danger. The dry grass surrounding the library has burned and the library property is undamaged. The active flames are burning elsewhere in the area.

Outrageous the fire has been allowed to get that close.

If I ever have home in fire country I am going to have cisterns full of water, sprinkler system and generator backup so I can turn on the sprinkler system while the fire rages around me.

That was over with hours ago. The library is completely surrounded by burnt crap, but it seems OK. Pretty fun to watch.

Been there twice. I’m not saying it can’t be damaged but if memory serves all concrete buildings with tile roofs. Surrounded by lots of concrete and grass. I dont think catching and burning to the ground is very likely.

I don’t recommend doing this.

But I would be tempted to tie Federal aid to the amount of help California has given the feds with immigrants.

It’s not like Trump hasn’t told California in the past that they need land management techniques to avoid fires like this.

I saw a guy claiming to prophecy judgement on California about two weeks ago. I think it was a Destiny House video. It was not Kim Clement. It was recent.
Said judgement was coming because of 1) the sins of Hollywood, 2) the sins of Silicon Valley (Didn’t elaborate), 3) the sins of the legislature, and 4) the sins of the judiciary. Think he had examples of the last 2. Linked it IRC to Amos 1. Referred to fire and earthquakes.

The library was saved, but on the plus side it’s now surrounded by a massive fire break, so they shouldn’t have to worry for another 10/20 years.

When fires get that hot vegetation doesn’t grow back by itself. That’s the real tragedy of California policies.

——the fire has been allowed——

You seemingly miss the point

The fire has not been allowed to progress. California in general is powerless, completely unable to stop it.

California and the fires are a metaphor for Donald Trump and the Democrats. He rages on, completely unstoppable
