This news no doubt has the usual phalanx cheering for the fire....

Obliteration of the “Ranch in the Sky” done by an act of God, in which they do not believe anyway?

Take care what you wish for.

Now the rulers of the Philistines assembled to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god and to celebrate, saying, “Our god has delivered Samson, our enemy, into our hands.”

When the people saw him, they praised their god, saying,

“Our god has delivered our enemy
into our hands,
the one who laid waste our land
and multiplied our slain.”

While they were in high spirits, they shouted, “Bring out Samson to entertain us.” So they called Samson out of the prison, and he performed for them.

When they stood him among the pillars, Samson said to the servant who held his hand, “Put me where I can feel the pillars that support the temple, so that I may lean against them.” Now the temple was crowded with men and women; all the rulers of the Philistines were there, and on the roof were about three thousand men and women watching Samson perform. Then Samson prayed to the Lord, “Sovereign Lord, remember me. Please, God, strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes.” Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other, Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived.

Rush said a short while ago that liberals in Cali are cheering on/hoping for the fire to burn down the library.

A caller to Rush today said that many of the fires in southern CA have been set in homeless camps. Can anyone give more info on that?

The winds approaching hurricane force are in the hills, not in the cities where her wind speeds are. Also - the winds approaching hurricane force were forecasted (by professional fire meteorologists who work for various agencies such as NIFC) to be mostly in SOCAL - not where your video was produced.

And, as a 32-year professional meteorologist myself I can tell you that even though the computer models yesterday were indeed showing hurricane-force gusts in the hills to the west and northwest of LA - it would be rare to actually see that measured by weather instruments. It is always rare to see max forecasted winds measured in such an event.

BUT - what did we see? The Warm Springs RAWS site measured a gust to 68 MPH. The Wiley Ridge RAWS site measured 62 MPH. Santa Clara measured 50 MPH. Camarillo was at 55.

BUT - Happy Camp Road's weather station measured a gust to 74 mph - which is the official wind speed for the start of hurricane-force winds. Therefore a weather station measured hurricane-force winds. It is HIGHLY likely there were higher winds in the passes where there are no weather stations and the winds were funneled.

So -- just because there are "NO HURRICANE winds on ANY of her weeather maps, none of them!" - doesn't mean there aren't any elsewhere. So - yes - they "all yack about super winds" FOR A REASON.

Because winds gusting to 50 - 60 - 74+ MPH and downsloping over ridges with a humidity level below 10% - over dry vegetation - is a BIG FREAKING DEAL.

So - take some advice - stay out of the deep end when you don't know how to swim.

If you ca look at these wind reports and still say with a straight face that talk of super winds is just "yack" and the strongest wind is her talking...then I can't help you...

Malibu, CA – Wind Gusts to 78 MPH

Happy Camp Rd, CA

My fear is that they actually let it burn and then claimed that there was nothing they could do to stop it. Does anybody really doubt that this would be to dastardly an act for them?

my hope was to successfully communicate how ridiculous it looks for a weatherman to be reporting about high winds when his weather map says CALM and 3mph

the TV news editor should have caught that patent discrepency
and canned the weather map (or replaced it with one that showed the higher wind reports’ figures...up on the mountaintops like you say)

as a weatherman, I would hate to have to talk about “70 mile gusts” when the big map I am pointing to says “CALM” and “4 mph” all over it

and since 98 percent of the population felt zero or just normal mild breezes with NO big wind gusts at ALL...but still were deliberately plunged into darkness and many with their phone services cut off too

people were not happy, as you can no doubt understand. viewing a weather map saying CALM and no winds, or only 12 mph normal breezes....... was a contradiction not lost on many

just saying

>>>my hope was to successfully communicate how ridiculous it looks for a weatherman to be reporting about high winds when his weather map says CALM and 3mph

What you need to understand is that you can't make a REPORTING SITE (an airport, etc) report a 70 MPH gust, especially when its clear to most everyone else that these winds are in the hills (she even says that).

I can't help it that YOU do not understand it. Again - just because you don't understand it doesn't mean you should take the opportunity to point things like that out. It's not her fault that the winds are going to occur in areas where there is limited reporting.

However, if you actually watch the video, you can clearly see the color codes that show where the winds are.

It's you who don't get it...everyone else does.

everyone else there has been laughing about how ridiculous it looked for ALL the weather reporters to be talking about fast winds while their TV stations had them standing in front of maps showing CALM (no winds at all) or only the usual mild breezes

its a big joke in Calif these days
and certainly the weather people need to tell their station editors to NOT show all the CALM and 3mph breezes on the big maps while the report was all about hurricane winds

———no personal offense to anyone, just that it makes a good weatherman look ridiculous and its not his/her fault!

Well-then everyone else is an idiot too. I gave you two wind reports from actual wind reporting stations that were of hurricane force gusts. There were dozens of other places that had gusts in the 55-65 mph range. I can’t help it that “everyone” isn’t smart enough to know that in these events the high winds occur in the hills and that people live in the valley and that’s where the weather stations that these TV stations always put on their reports come from. But-if you knew what you (and if everyone else did) knew that, well, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

But-bottom line-there were winds to hurricane force reported by actual weather sites AND in her maps-she actually SHOWED you where the strong winds would be-in the mountains and hills. I can’t help it that you can’t put two and two together. Sorry.

It will be a while before we know; the fire depts. are pretty busy right now. So far, the Getty fire, thought to be arson because of an ‘explosion’ at the time the fire started, has been blamed on a large (dead) tree branch being blown by winds, hit the power lines and caused a spark which caused a grass fire at the bottom of the pole. They showed the branch up on the lines (branch wasn’t burned tho). 10sec video of burst as seen from freeway:

SoCal Edison has announced the Simi Valley fire started near their power lines. It was still burning as of three hours ago with evacuation alerts now out for 26,000 Thousand Oaks and Moor Park residents, LaTimes reporting.

Two fires up in Lafayette, bay area were caused by PG&E, not homeless or arson.

Newsom said today that between Monday and Tuesday a total of 324 fires have been put out.
