Largest Child-Sacrifice Graveyard Strikes Huge Blow to Native American Innocence Myth

Every Columbus Day, liberals insist that the story of European colonization is a simple narrative of good versus evil: horrible Europeans came upon innocent Native Americans, introducing slavery, exploitation, and oppression. A massive archaeological discovery blows one of many gaping holes in this narrative. While Europeans did indeed do horrible things, the natives weren't exactly innocent.

Two hundred and fifty skeletons of children between the ages of 4 and 14 have been unearthed at Huanchaco, Peru, in what experts say is likely the world's largest child-sacrifice site. Huanchaco is a site of the Chimú culture (1200-1400), a predecessor to the mighty Inca Empire, which also carried out child sacrifices.

I get a kick out of the ignorant common false consensus that none of these same atrocities ever happened in the old world. For every “savage” native American atrocity, I can source to an equal and like kind atrocity or practice by the “civilized” cultures in the old world. Should the Spartan destruction of newborns be the stereotypical example for all cultures in the old world? Of course not, neither should one or two cultures in the new world be the universal stereotypical example for all the new world tribes. It would be like stereotyping “all” white men as bad just because one or two white men committed a crime.

“that said, human sacrifice was common in europe before christianity.”

Actually, human sacrifice and cannibalism was done in the name of Christianity.

The realities of history are being denied and ignored.

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

It is important that before you judge others harshly, you are absolutely sure you have no skeletons being hid in your own closet.

Trying to hide them by shutting the closet door with hypocrisy does not eliminate the fact that they are still there.

Despite what we are told, true virtuous righteousness might not always be true virtuous righteousness.

Recognizing this uncomfortable fact is the first step to actual true and pure righteousness.

Archaeologists digging around have found evidence of some form of human sacrifice/cannibalism in centuries past just about everywhere on the planet-since China guards their archaeological finds so carefully, we really don’t know if that stuff went on there-but I’ll bet real money that it did-humans were not gentle or nice in centuries past-we still aren’t-we allow the sacrifice of unborn humans to a woman’s “right to choose”-even though there is no famine from a drought , towns are not being pillaged and burned, women raped and slaughtered-but in some states the murder of an unwanted newborn can be approved by the “mother”...

Being Hispanic/Latino most of my ancestry is Spanish-but in the 400 or so years since those ancestors got on a ship and fled Spain, they weren’t shy about interbreeding/marrying with Native American women, from tribes in Mexico to the Apaches in Mexico, Texas and New Mexico when it was all Spanish territory-they were just working class ranchers and herders, free to partner with any woman they liked.

I don’t think either my Spanish ancestors or the Native ones were kind, caring or peaceful-they were equally savage, but the ones from Spain had more polished methods of torture and justified it all in the name of the Inquisition-but I don’t think Jesus had torture in mind as a tool to win converts...

Native Americans taught the Spanish some torture methods, Spanish taught some torture methods to the Natives-everybody burned, scalped and beheaded each other, and the Karankawas on the Texas coast were practicing cannibalism into the early 1800’s-none of that sounds civilized to me-I can’t imagine that level of cruelty-I don’t even have the urge to burn a few witches...

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

Really??

Judge NOT???

Sigh...

Jesus has commanded us to judge!

"Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? Do you not know that the saints will judge the world?... And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?... Do you not know that we shall judge angels?... How much more, things that pertain to this life?.. If then you have judgments concerning things pertaining to this life, do you appoint those who are least esteemed by the church to judge ? (1 Corinthians 6:1-5).

Many commands of God require the exercise of righteous judgment.

"But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us" (2 Thessalonians 3:6).

"And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother" (2 Thessalonians 3:14,15).

"Teach and exhort these things. If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wrangling of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself" (2 Timothy 6:2b-5).

"Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple" (Romans 16:17,18).

All these commands require the careful exercise of righteousness judgment. Do not be deceived by smooth words and flattering speech. Beware of wolves who come to you with a sheep's skin.

We must be careful not to make unqualified judgments. But we must judge appropriately when commanded to do so.

"Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment."  (John 7:24).

I see a whole lot of judgement of others and no judgement of self in these. And a couple even support my perspective if understood as they are meant to be.

Very definite ideas-one conquered British Chieftain-Galacus I think-famously defined the Pax Romana-”They make a desert and call it peace”...

I had a prof who was convinced that all that Roman ancestry that Italians and Spaniards have is what makes them cruel and bloody people, even to this day-the Mafia presence that is common and accepted by both, the adherence to vendetta/venganza/revenge against enemies, a liking for violent/blood sport, volatile Latin tempers, etc-when asked why the French-who also have Roman ancestry-aren’t as violent and bloody as the Italians and Spaniards, he said it was because the Romans took over France a long time after they had absorbed Spain-and they had owned Italy from the gitgo-I’ve always thought there might be a good bit of truth in his theory...

ROTFL!!!! You think posting an atheist website's link to an 1887 anti-Christian rant titled "Crimes of Christianity" is convincing evidence that Crusade-era violence was one-sided?

How about this howler in the 1st paragraph --- "The Christians were brought face to face with a civilisation superior to their own; their eyes were dazzled by the light of Arabian learning, and the mental ferment which succeeded in Europe led to ..... the growth of philosophy and scepticism, .... in turn led to the French Revolution, which sounded the death knell of Feudalism, and to the Freethought of Voltaire, which pierced the heart of Superstition".

LOL!!!! By comparison, Mr. "Openurmind" - you make Omar-Ilhan look like an anti-Muslim Christian apologist. (The French Revolution being held up for adulation?????)

And for your information, the links to "Crusaders practicing cannibalism" seem to all point to one incident - the siege of Ma'arra, where starving Crusaders were surrounded by bodies of those killed when they earlier took the city. The incident, even if true, would have been an Alferd Packer-ish "last resort to save your life" type of cannibalism. And as to whether any starving Crusaders actually did cook body parts from dead bodies, even Wikipedia - not exactly known as a hotbed of pro-Christian sentiment - casts serious doubt on whether it did happen - since the main chronicler of this accusation, a European, wasn't even on the 1st Crusade, while OTOH all the contemporary Muslim chroniclers, who were a lot closer to the action, didn't make any mention of it - which would be an incredible omission to leave out an event that makes your enemy look very bad.

Hey Openurmind, as long as you're on such a roll here, why don't you dig up for us some other ancient screeds describing how Jews in Medieval Europe poisoned wells and drank murdered children's blood?

You sound like the victim of too much Hollywood propaganda (most likely the abominable "Kingdom of Heaven" movie), or a victim of a modern American Institute of Higher Education, or both.

And don't you just love it when people who are functionally Bible-illiterate, all delight in quoting the passage about the woman Jesus saved from stoning, thinking it proves there isn't really such a thing as "sin," while leaving out the last line in the passage where Jesus says to her, "Go, and sin no more".

Huh? "Sin"? Whazzat? I thought we just got done proving it doesn't exist, using Jesus's own words???

lol, Hope that made you feel better. :)

You missed the point completely and I am defending no one. My point was that old world cultures were absolutely just as barbaric as the new world savages. To claim righteous superiority is a cover up of the true historical facts.

I gave just one example of hundreds of old world cultural atrocities and genocides through the ages.

All of the cultures, not one is exempt and innocent of brutal atrocities of their own, not Islam, not Christianity, none of them. It is the nature of man, and to deny this real anthropological historical fact is an outright lie.

My perspective is not fogged or blinded by faith of any kind. It is based on real scientific historical facts. Just the objective truth.
