Entrances or gaps? An entrance can be opened and closed.

Either way, the Vatican City can, and often does, restrict access even through the “wide open” gaps in the wall. That’s the nice part of being a walled city, you have a relatively few access points that you need to control. No fortress is free of any access points, since that would make it useless.

The street entrances are open almost all the time. St. Peter’s Square is wide open all the time. Even when National Socialists were in control of Rome, they didn’t put up a physical barrier. Nazis didn’t dare cross the line, but that had more to do with diplomacy and not pissing off the citizens of Rome than it had with any forceful defense of the border.

You seem to be complaining that the wide open entrances (particularly St. Peter’s Square) aren’t properly representative of the Vatican/Italy border … don’t miss the point: that picture of a wall with a bunch of people lined up next to it isn’t properly representative, either.

The open places don’t support The Narrative, so people dedicated to The Narrative ignore them.

"The street entrances are open almost all the time."

"Almost" means they can be closed.

"St. Peter’s Square is wide open all the time."

Except they put up manned pedestrian barriers that can easily stop you from entering anytime they want:

"Even when National Socialists were in control of Rome, they didn’t put up a physical barrier."

So what? Nobody ever put up a gate to stop Nazis, because the Nazis would just blow it up. That's why they evacuated Paris and just let them waltz in.

"You seem to be complaining that the wide open entrances (particularly St. Peter’s Square) aren’t properly representative of the Vatican/Italy border …"

No, my point is that this is a walled city and showing one little section with a gap in the wall doesn't change that. The fact is, the wall was built to protect the city and allow them to control access to it, just as we would like to do with our southern border, and the walls still are able to serve that function today even if the Vatican chooses not to exercise that all of the time.

"The open places don’t support The Narrative"

Nonsense. A border wall would have "open places" too. Every fortress has "open places", since they would be useless without a way in and out.

There you go promoting The Narrative.

Our southern border protection is considered by most on this forum to be grossly inadequate precisely because it looks a lot like the Vatican/Italy border. Imagine the illegal aliens climbing over that little waist high fence in your picture. That’s not for preventing people entering, it’s for guiding them as they arrive for a major event. NYC does the same thing in Times Square on New Year’s Eve.
