Eddie Gallagher, the Navy SEAL at the center of a high-profile standoff between President Trump and some top officials in the Navy, will retire from active duty and will not take part in a review board over his conduct in 2017 while deployed, a Navy spokesman said late Monday.
Gallagher, a highly decorated SEAL who received two Bronze Stars with V for valor, was acquitted of murder in the stabbing death of an Islamic State militant captive but was convicted of posing with the corpse.
Lt. Cmdr. Clay Doss, the Navy spokesman, said there will be no additional information due to privacy concerns.

I’d love to see Pres. Trump appoint him to some senior position, maybe Navy Secretary. That would be sweet revenge. But probably not kind to Gallagher.
Gallagher has children and is actually still married to their mother. This is rare among warfighters. His wife is amazing for sticking by his side through this. I can only imagine how stressful it has been. I hope they can enjoy his military retirement and that he finds a satisfying new career.
When we caught German Troops wearing US Army Uniforms on the Battlefield during WWII they were Interrogated and Shot on the spot.
Now posing for a Camera Phone Picture with a dead Terrorist Son of a Bitch can ruin someone’s Life, a person who put their own Life on the line for our Nation?
Too bad there isn’t a picture of Conan squatting and relieving herself over the remains (pieces) of the ISIS guy she went after.
We live in interesting times.
Its fallout from the Iraq war prison photo scandal.
Any idea as to why they were so intent on getting Gallagher?
Sounds like the JAGs are operating like the "political officers" in the old Soviet army.
I guess they got their head on straight.
Case closed. Moving on.......
1. They're prosecutors.
2. They got caught pulling some shady stuff. They mad.
"Part of the punishment included booting Cmdr. Christopher Czaplak, the lead prosecutor, for a warrantless surveillance program cooked up with Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents to track emails sent by defense attorneys and Navy Times."
3. They're probably NeverTrump.
“Sounds like the JAGs are operating like the “political officers” in the old Soviet army.”
In more and more combat theater operations areas they are; like school teachers and administrators that have to check with their lawyers and union reps before they authorize anything, anything - if anything happens don’t want their own lawyers telling them THEIR INTERPRETATION of the UCMJ and DOD “regs” would have them either not do something or do it different. It’s like “legal” micro-management. No way to run any war.
“He had 100s of pics of dead VC and some NVA...and pics of some pretty bad stuff like trophies
Nobody said shit”
My HS history teacher back in the 70’s was a WWII island jumper.
He passed around class 20-25 pics of dead Japanese soldiers he took in the most gruesome form.
No one complained or got offended. He wanted to show how bad the fighting was and what are troops saw.
Today he would be drummed out of the school by lunchtime.
We were hardier back then.
