Seven San Diego residents are dead from a flesh-eating bacteria tied to black tar heroin and county health officials are on the alert for yet more cases.
Officials from San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency on Thursday announced the two-month string of deaths from the soft tissue infection myonecrosis and have told the medical community in this county of more than 3.3 million people to watch for more cases.

People who inject the drug leave themselves at higher risk of fatally overdosing and are more liable to developing myonecrosis and wound botulism, said Wilma Wooten, San Diego County public health officer.
Heroin is bad for you? Who knew?
WOW! We better crack down and outlaw heroin like we’re doing with vapes
I dunno, but there’s something sketchy about those used syringes I just can’t put my finger on...
Obviously we need more troops in Ag to protect the purity of the poppy crops.
If this doesn’t stop the “epidemic” I don’t know what will.
I’m a little bit skeptical.
Most human beings actually have “flesh eating” bacteria that live on their own skin.
The mystery is why it suddenly becomes extremely aggressive and potentially lethal.
Hard to believe that bacteria could actually live in black tar heroin for any length of time.
Perhaps something in the heroin blocks the immune system from killing the bacteria?
If only they would legalize it and we get certified safe heroin then these deaths could be prevented.
Whatever the reason, it is saving the society and the government considerable expense. I have no sympathy for heroin addicts that are not, at least, playing some good jazz.
More news from the California dystopia.
If they would just allow 10% fentanyl into the mixture of heroin the problem would be solved.
Another Darwin Award Winner!
Unfortunately probably costing the local taxpayers a considerable amount of money. Heroin addicts usually don’t have a private health insurance plan. Going to the hospital with a terminal case of flesh eating bacteria will run up a bill in the range of several hundred thousand dollars.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Better they just quietly expire in their shooting galleries. Then taxpayers just have to pay for the morgue bills. Future thievery will have been forestalled among other things. I would oppose treating or rehabbing addicts that do not come to it voluntarily or whose family doesn’t put them up to it. I am not sympathetic and do not pity them. If someone saws his own leg off I will shed no tears for him.
