It’s like having Detroit manage the space program.
First time I ever came within a few feet of a lion in the wild (38 years ago) I almost needed a change of underwear.
This is what happens to a cargo cult when the white pilots stop delivering cargo.
How can they maintain what they could never could have built in the first place, either the infrastructure or the civil society?
In fact, I recently saw a video where they were actually tearing up paved roads, saying that these roads were a symbolic of the honkies and therefore had to go.
Socialist countries do that... and then there is the white flight out of the country
So an incompetent government puts party toadies in the "easy" jobs of energy infrastructure and they can't (or don't bother to) do maintenance. And the whole thing falls apart. If it sounds like Venezuela, there's a reason.
It looks like Zimbabwe, too. Recently renewed calls for expropriation of land from white farmers are, as in Zim, masked by a pretense that race is the problem when in fact they'll be taking land from successful farmers and giving it to party toadies. The nationalized bank has reminded the government that it's also taking land from people who pay their mortgages and giving it to people who won't, which may sound great in political speeches but will further crash an already shaky economy, not to mention starving the cities when the government runs out of borrowed money to import what they used to produce. None of this is speculation, it's a sober recitation of recent and present history. And they will not learn.
And SA has a big-time problem with illegals coming into the country from the rest of the continent.
No they don’t. CA doesnt wont the power utilities, nor have they confiscated white farmers lands. CAs power problems ismdirectly attributed to mismanagement by PG&E along with over regulation by CA.
Affirmative action’s ultimate object lesson.
Good luck. Be cautious.
South Africa and California have a lot in common!
*******
South Africa and Venezeula are going to have even more in common.
Hardly. Problem is Eco-kooks stopping any cutting of the brush. Creates huge fuel load. Sparks are an inevitable aspect of power lines, especially those making those long runs up cliffs and such.
It's not economically practical to fix the problem from the Utility side. What needs to happen is the underbrush needs to be kept clear of areas where there are powerlines, but eh Eco-kooks throw a fit.
My wife watches the TV show “90 Day Fiance’” I noticed there are a few white guys trying to get out of South Africa. Last year a woman and her 10 year old son moved there so mom could be with her “true love.” After a few months she called it a Hell Hole and moved back to the good old USA.
Just doing their part to combat global climate change.
Will you be going any other place, during the 3 weeks, or just doing "wild life" stuff?
No place in RSA is all that safe; especially for tourists, now; sadly, and it just keeps on getting worse and worse. The thing is, no news covers ANY of this stuff and they haven't for a very long time and when they do air a bit, it's mostly lies...here in the West.
Great post, truthful and factual to boot! You DO know what you’re talking about.
So now, besides the ANC blacks fight the RSA blacks who have refused to join the ANC, there's inter TRIBAL warfare between "legal" and ILLEGAL blacks. And blacks of all sorts against whites and coloured ( Asian[ Indians, Pakis, and bi-racial people ] ) which is crazily out of hand.
Its not just poor maintenance. Its that energy is highly political - even is in the USA.
The South African utility must sell cheap energy to local co-ops in neighborhoods or municipality energy companies - who then don’t pay the utility but can’t be shut off for political reasons. The SA electric utility is nearly bankrupt because its sitting on loads of bad debt itself!
