Gee. Africa hasn’t done too good since they ran off all their white captors.
My theory is the since the Soviet Union infiltrated all of the anti-colonialist independence movements, in a cynical ploy to advance their own hegemony, it sped up the timeline in a way that de-colonialization was rushed, and basically countries became independent without having the infrastructure in place to truly be independent.

They’ll sweep in, throw a lot of low interest “loans” around and in no time the SA Govt will be a debtor to the Chinese. The Chinese will then say “Gosh, you have all these wonderful natural resources (gold, uranium, etc). Perhaps you can “pay off” your debt by giving us unlimited access to develop these resources. Oh and by the way, unlimited access also means exclusive access and reduced availability of these resources to other countries - you know like the US”

Mine does too. I try to avoid it but I did see the episode when the US woman decides to go back to the US. I think it was her visit to the local public hospital that finally convinced her that South Africa was a bad place to be.
