Confusing, or perhaps just ignorant or slanted reporting, as is commonplace these days.
He was accused and part of his bail agreement was that he surrender all his firearms. He didn’t. I suspect that the conviction for the failure to surrender under red flag was used instead of failing to comply with a court order because the former carried a stiffer penalty.
Conservatives are old hand at inaction, that is for sure. Can you imagine them marching in protest?

The ease at which they destroyed the Tea Party has remained disturbing to me. I attended two Tea Party rallies; and, came away exhilarated that conservatives had finally gotten off their duffs. Sadly, conservatives aren’t actually strongly committed to anything. The lame excuses for the Tea Party breakup are maddening.
Obama weaponized the entire government agencies against Tea Party groups, their lives were DESTROYED you can’t blame them they honestly TRIED to over come these bastards!!! The DEEP STATE is to much to overcome their tentacles are throughout the entire government!! I blame my generation for not seeing this happening before it was to late!!!

They certainly picked an easy case. The offender was a bad dude with a history. Future cases may well be more complicated.
If he was “shooting at a car driven by a friend” in 2018, why didn’t they simply convict him for the assault? It would have had the same effect on him against possession of weapons.
