Hillary Clinton has been appointed as the new chancellor of Queen’s University Belfast, the college announced on Thursday.
The former US first lady, secretary of state and senator, who has been a regular visitor to Northern Ireland going back to the first visit of President Bill Clinton in 1995, becomes the university’s first female chancellor.
Ms Clinton, who failed in her bid to be elected US president, holds an honorary doctorate from Queen’s. She will serve as chancellor for a five-year term.

A University Chancellor in the UK is not a job in the usual sense but an honorary appointment with merely ceremonial duties once or twice a year. Still, sad such a fine institution as Queen’s has duped itself.

Great question! According to Wikipedia, it seems that there would have to be a guarantee that the death penalty would not be sought:
“In the case of Soering v. United Kingdom, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that the United Kingdom was not permitted under its treaty obligations to extradite an individual to the United States, because the United States’ federal government was constitutionally unable to offer binding assurances that the death penalty would not be sought in Virginia courts. Ultimately, the Commonwealth of Virginia itself had to offer assurances to the federal government, which passed those assurances on to the United Kingdom, which extradited the individual to the United States.”

Clinton is Chancellor, not Vice-Chancellor, and appears well prepared for another “do nothing, ceremonial, high status” role!
