Kentucky Senator Rand Paul told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Monday that he believes Congress must have a chance to vote on President Donald Trump's moves toward a war with Iran and has discussed a War Powers Resolution with co-sponsor, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine.
"I think killing a country's major general is an act of war," Paul said. "I don't think you can get away with saying it's 'imminent.' They've been complaining for years about Soleimani. I mean, most of the killings that are attributed to him are, I think, are from the Iraq War. You know, ten years ago or longer. And so, I think that saying this is 'imminent' and saying they don't need the permission of Congress goes against the traditions of our Constitution."
"Whether it's been a Democrat president, I've been a stickler that the way to make war rare is to make it to where you actually have to vote on it in Congress and that it has to be overwhelming," Paul continued. "There have been timeswhere we were attacked on 9/11, virtually everybody voted to go after those who attacked us. Same way with Pearl Harbor."
"But this is sort of a different situation where no one's really proposing all-out war," Paul explained. "What we're proposing is something that will fester and go on and on and dribs and drabs of intermittent violence for decades, if not generations."

...
A “tradition” must be like a “penumbra.”
Libertarians. Yikes! Same old, same old. Youre okay, Im okay schlick.
Deadly, but always *sounds* virtuous and ethereal.

Rand is at his worst when he’s being ideological.
Were aware that the sanctions and ending the Iran deal had already happened.
What do you mean these are predictable reactions ?
Declare war
Rand, just shut up and color dude.
I’m beginning to wonder whether his neighbor had the right idea after all.
And Iran attacking the US embassy isn’t?
Liberals need to get their heads screwed on straight.
Let Mr Senator propose the legislation, can’t wait to read it and hear the debate. Why not withdraw all troops from the M.E. and that will take care of it (though the doves of EU will scream b/c no one is protecting their oil source).
I strongly support Congress’ power regarding the declaration of war. Tucker Carlson is critical of POTUS action, in part for this reason - plus the deep state’s involvement. Just days prior the media and radicals were calling the attack on our embassy as Trump’s Benghazi. Don’t hear that anymore. Iran has been running around inside Iraq for almost 2 decades. Yes, let’s have the debate Mr Senator, after the impeachment.

He is a Senator. He can’t explain it.
He’s off his meds again...
Hey Rand (Paul), it’s bad enough having the Democrats supporting Iran. How about leaving it at that?
“He wants to bring the troops home and thinks they deserve better than fighting a war with no clear mission.”
You guys don’t think Trump wants the same? Let’s get real, whoever brings the troops home needs to clean up the neighborhood first (or things will be much worse, for everyone). Obama didn’t have the balls to do that, Trump does - and he will, especially if Iran gives him any pretext at this point.
I love Rand Paul but this is why I hesitate to want him for President. He is so weak on foreign policy.
“I remember when Rand only cared about the President targeting American citizens, traveling abroad. And after an all-nighter on the Senate floor, Obama called him and said he would stop.”
To THIS DAY, the only positive thing I’ve ever been able to say about Obama was that he was vicious in the use of drones, and unlike Rand, In don’t consider a blue passport as protection for terrorists.
“Tucker Carlson is critical of POTUS action, in part for this reason - plus the deep states involvement.”
I don’t take my positions based on the Deep State - I take my positions based on what’s good for America. In this case our embassy was attacked, and we responding by liquidating the attacker. It’s nice to see that the Deep State approves (although I’m not so sure that’s the case, only Bolton that I know of), but I could care less what the Deep State wants.
If Mr. Salamani wanted to make it to the next Ramadan, he should have checked with Trump first, rather than taking advice from Kerry on the best way to get the US to remove its troops from Iraq. Kerry doesn’t speak for Trump, after all.
So, under Sen. Rand Paul thinking, it is ok to kill civilians and low ranking military as long as you do not kill political leaders and high ranking officers.
Iran and other countries can kill as many American low-ranking military personnel and civilians as they want without it being an Act of War. I guess Sen Rand Paul is more important then me.
“listentomelistentomelistentomelistentomeI’mrelevant. Really.”
No... THAT is an act of War. Our giving him a SEMTEX enema was a direct retaliation against an active threat.
I get it that Rand as a quasi-libertarian and a Capitalist is against war... By default. But in this case, this was defensive use of force and even Ayn Rand wouldn't have batted an eye at this one.
