Kentucky Senator Rand Paul told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Monday that he believes Congress must have a chance to vote on President Donald Trump's moves toward a war with Iran and has discussed a War Powers Resolution with co-sponsor, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine.
"I think killing a country's major general is an act of war," Paul said. "I don't think you can get away with saying it's 'imminent.' They've been complaining for years about Soleimani. I mean, most of the killings that are attributed to him are, I think, are from the Iraq War. You know, ten years ago or longer. And so, I think that saying this is 'imminent' and saying they don't need the permission of Congress goes against the traditions of our Constitution."
"Whether it's been a Democrat president, I've been a stickler that the way to make war rare is to make it to where you actually have to vote on it in Congress and that it has to be overwhelming," Paul continued. "There have been timeswhere we were attacked on 9/11, virtually everybody voted to go after those who attacked us. Same way with Pearl Harbor."
"But this is sort of a different situation where no one's really proposing all-out war," Paul explained. "What we're proposing is something that will fester and go on and on and dribs and drabs of intermittent violence for decades, if not generations."

We haven’t done that since WWII.
Hes an isolationist just like his dad
In other words - the status quo, eh Rand? Congress authorized this strike under their resolution on the war on terror. That has not been rescinded, despite zero's attempts to get it cancelled.
Soleimani was the leader of a terrorist group - just one that sometimes wore Iranian uniforms. His targeting was necessary, and strategic.
Yep. Its that libertarian crapola.
Rand is like Newt.
Sometimes I really like him and the stands he takes.
THEN, he’ll 180 on you! Just when you start to love them they go all wobbly on you.
“...intermittent violence for decades...”? Hasn’t this paul guy noticed that these moozlum terrorists HAVE been doing that for decades...and longer. If anything, President Trump is stopping the coddling of these worthless, malignant terrorists while they bite away little by little.
Rand Paul; nice guy sometimes head up his ass sometimes; this is one of those times.
Indeed he’s sucking up to congress they like he are clueless about the laws.
An officer operating in a live combat zone is a participant in the game.
This isn’t like 200 years ago when it was considered bad manners to shoot at officers.
Why does ANYONE go on CNN?
Paul lost all of my respect, this morning. Pathetic!
Attacking an embassy is an act of war...
I think President Trump has shown a great amount of restraint, but the death of an American, plus the attack on the embassy had President Trump say, ENOUGH, and took an extremely selective strike again someone who’s planned the deaths of hundreds of American servicemen, and the wounding and crippling of many thousands of American servicemen with the Iranian distribution of highly “effective” armor penetrating explosive warheads.
I actually read that some demonrats have complained that President Trump didn’t use “proportionate force.” When you fight, and you use “proportionate force,” you get a never-ending war. Which is why America hasn’t won a war since WWII, when overwhelming force against our enemies caused their unconditional surrender.
In the first Iraq war, we did have overwhelming force, but then the politicians took over and allowed Saddam to keep his remaining forces. Even though there were restrictions, he flaunted them, which eventually caused a second invasion. And of course, because there were no plans for an aftermath (as there was in WWII,) bedlam resulted, which has caused even more instability in an already chaotic region.
If a bully slugs you, you hit him so hard that he will reconsider ever hitting you again.

Obama and Iran KNEW that the "Iran deal" wasn't worth the paper it was written on, since the senate never voted on it. And President Trump said he would void the deal when he became President.
If Obama wanted a legitimate deal, he should have submitted it to the senate for a vote, and lobbied for the senate to pass it. Instead, he did what lefties always do... He took a short-cut, an end-run around the Constitution, which is what he called "a document of 'negative rights.'"
