I lived in Baguio City at the time of the Pinatubo eruption, and one of my daughters and two grandchildren still live there.
Although the southwest monsoon had already started, for some reason most of the ash went to the south and southwest. Ash settled as far in that direction as Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. I was working offshore in the Sulu Sea and did not know of the eruption, thus was perplexed by the coating of dust all over the ship. When we put into Puerto Princesa to lift fuel there was ~3 inches of ash covering that city.
But I do not recall that there was much of a mess in Baguio. The ash was 20 feet deep in parts of Tarlac, but decreased significantly further north. Baguio City was, however, devastated by the earthquake of 1990.
I have not been to Baguio, but I have been to Tagaytay. I am in Davao City now. What baragay was she from?
My wife was raised in ND and was going to UND when I met her. The only good thing about North Dakota and I took her with me when I left.
Were you stationed at Grand Forks? I never was, and retired at Travis AFB, CA.
Yes, GFAFB. 1978-1982. Really bad winters and one incredibly horrible flood. Got a medal for that one.
have you heard any more about Dutchsinse?
No.
