I don’t hold much hope for nuclear since it has a worse rep than coal.

More people have died in Ted Kennedy's car than in all the commercial reactor nuke accidents in the United States.

If the owners cannot update and produce clean-coal then they have to close up and the owners know that.

Nixing gas is in effect nixing water

California doesn't need more water, it needs less Democrats. Not allowing gas production has the effect of increasing CO2 emissions because higher prices make it financially viable for other producers to use more energy intensive methods.

In Floyd County Georgia there was a very old and inefficient coal fired electric energy plant called Plant Hammond. Recently it was closed because it was wasteful and was no longer needed. Its production had been replaced by other more modern plants. I have noticed that the 1957 Ford, Chevy cars are no longer plentiful on the roads. Those old cars have been replaced by newer models. And so it goes.

350 years of proven recoverable coal reserves in North America.
It’s a shame to walk away from it now...

Truth is it takes 500-800 to run a coal burner. 10 guys can run a co generation plant.

The state regulations in maryland make it very very difficult to meet the permitted discharges. Every year the state lowers its emissions standards. The greentards have gone so far as to blame coal fired plants for childhood asthma attacks and deaths, even though studies and air samples have proven tome and 90% of the ozone in Baltimore is from cars and out of state ( ohio and Pennsylvania) air pollution. IOW rural maryland has a low incidence of asthma attacks but baltimore Greentards with 100’s of thousands or cars on the road daily, blame coal fired plants anyway.

Other reasons they are closing is that during the obummer reign of terror, many states passed regulation forcing them to close by mandating power companies generate an ever increasing amount of power from “clean renewable” sources, while also mandating coal fired plants to install even more expensive scrubbing equipment - that SCOTUS weighed in calling CO2 pollutant didn’t help either.

Coal really needed help 10 years ago when gas became competitive.
Obama did just the opposite and jumped in to destroy the industry, intentionally.
If Obama had let coal adjust t6o the new economics we’d have all been much better off.

At least Trump isn’t making it worse for coal, and us. Even helping a little bit.

Which we don't need now.

Indeed. And Sarah Palin knew what she was talking about when she said, "Drill, baby, drill!!"

They’re the oldest generating plants we’ve got and some are too small or poorly located to justify reinvestment.

Gas emits about half the carbon dioxide, a leading contributor to global warming, as coal.
