Do we have a gun problem, or a government problem?

Following Monday's 22,000-plus strong rally in Richmond, Virginia – which Gov. Northam claimed was "some kind of über-Klan rally of white supremacists," but the only arrest was for an LGBT activist who refused to remove her mask – the state's Democratic lawmakers proceeded to push through a gun-control bill one day later. I don't think Virginia politicians realize what a hornet's nest they're stirring.

You missed the point. His point was about committing a crime (robbery, murder) with a gun.

Not the ‘crime’ of possessing a gun

I am a strong supporter of serious jail time for committing a crime with a gun. Maybe not the death penalty, but very long term jail like 50 years.

When you commit a crime with a gun you are effectively saying you will kill somebody, so it should be treated as attempted murder.

UNDERSTOOD.

On a different subject, I favor a new federal “gun law” that REQUIRES a minimum sentence to federal prison of 10-20 years for EVERY person who commits any violent felony crime with ANY dangerous weapon & that such MANDATORY sentence NOT be “combined with” any other sentence, subject to probation or parole, “fail to be prosecuted” or “plea-bargained away” AND that the federal sentence MUST be served in full before the convicted felon begins any other sentence that he/she has been accessed.

In the event that the felon, once released from confinement, commits another violent felony with a deadly weapon that the ONLY sentences upon conviction of that crime be LIFE W/O
PAROLE or DEATH.

Those were not aerial shots. FYI: there were at least three helos and one fixed wing aircraft circling above the whole morning.

I understand your point but....

Define “crime”! If the “crime” is possessing a gun, then boy are you screwed.

With all due respect to Ms Lewis, patriots need to start pointing their fingers at themselves concerning constitutionally failed federal and state governments as a consequence of citizen abuse of voting power imo.

More specifically, we have a problem imo where citizens are electing government leaders who evidently don’t know constitutional limits on federal and state government powers any better than the citizens who elected them do.

The 13th Amendment protects people from involuntary servitude and slavery.

"13th Amendment:
Section 1: Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

What that amendment doesn’t do is prevent misguided, constitutionally low-information voters from effectively volunteering to be servants and slaves to the people they elect to office.

“Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors, shall all become wolves. It seems to be the law of our general nature.” —From Thomas Jefferson to Edward Carrington, 16 January 1787.

The ill-conceived 17th Amendment needs to disappear, the 16th Amendment along with it.

Remember in November!

My point was that in New Jersey the most frequent gun crime under the law is possession of one. I didn’t miss the point, just added one.

ANYONE committing a crime with a gun should be automatically face the death penalty. PERIOD!

Be careful of what you wish. This one is loaded with unintended consequences.

We have a government problem along with a government weaponized media problem.

The first amendment is being raped and abused, there is no requirement for truth, only thought and narrative control.

Fyi, the FAR LEFT &their toadies in the so-called “mainstream media” ALWAYS greatly underestimate the size of crowds of PATRIOTS & always vastly overstate the size of LEFTIST rallies.

Not only can't White Man jump, he can't count either.

OK. I thought that it was just a matter of the “main-SLIME press” LYING.

Instead, it sounds as if you are saying that it’s really a problem of STUPIDITY and/or what used to be called being: MENTALLY RETARDED.

Fwiw, in 2011 I was present on the National Mall (to watch a rugby game) in DC when an ANTI-GUN demonstration/parade took place.

There was 500-600 “marchers”, 2 Parade Marshals on bicycles & one long table of 8-10 “greeters”. = The next morning (Sunday) CBS show “SUNDAY MORNING” showed a couple of shots of the first group of “protestors” & “featured” the march for “gun control” & claimed that about 30,000 people were there. =======> That is quite TYPICAL of the UTTER DISHONESTY of the “mainstream press”.
