Write your congresscritters; if enough of us complain, they MAY wake up to the fact there is a problem (and it’s not too late to shut ALL our borders for a couple of weeks until we see what is coming down the pike...)

Completely agree. If he's making a public announcement, they are admitting that the situation is already out of control IMO. Saving face (mianzi) is huge in China, and someone of Xi's stature to admit that he wasn't able to control the situation would certainly create a loss of face for both himself and other officials.
