Romney says he had to follow 'conscience' on vote to convict Trump, expects ‘enormous consequences’

Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, told Fox News' Chris Wallace Wednesday in an exclusive interview that he "had to follow my conscience" in deciding to vote to convict President Trump on abuse of power, a decision that's likely to lead to serious blowback from Trump and others in the Republican Party.

"I believe that the act he took, an effort to corrupt an election is as destructive an attack on the oath of office and our Constitution as I can imagine," Romney said. "It is a high crime and misdemeanor within the meaning of the Constitution, and that is not a decision I take lightly. It is the last decision I want to take."

Romney is going to be the Democrat nominee for president in a deadlocked convention.

Watch it happen.

Did you listen to him? God (The ghost of Brigham Young?) told him to do it.

I’ve tended to avoid criticism of Mormonism but this guy is like Mormon ISIS or something.

I hope Mitch instructs Senate Republicans to give Romney the treatment he deserves as the d@mn traitor that he is.

Start with shunning; no one speaks to Romney in the hallways, no one socializes, nothing. Act like he doesn’t exist.

Then support any primary challenger running against Romney in Utah.

I won’t feel comfortable until Mike Lee, Lamar Alexander, Susan Collins, Cory Gardner, and McKowshitz vote NO.

Dems got something dirty on Mitt.

Romney is involved in the Burisma corruption in Ukraine. If Trump gets an actual investigation, corrupt illegalities get tied back to Mitt Romney.

Like Father like Son.

A worthless fool who has to do his “conscience.” And what exactly is Mitt’s conscience? Is it Romneycare, abortion on demand, not abortion on demand, his ego, higher taxes and a fair share, putting people out of jobs in the name of profit, what? The man has had so many consciences it is amazing he doesn’t suffer from split personality disorder.

Or maybe it is that Mitt Romney’s conscience comprises sticking his finger in the air and seeing which way (he thinks) that the wind is blowing. Except that wind NEVER emanates from the constituents who he lied to in order to get elected. Instead, it emanates from the elites who Romney desperately wants approval from.

It’s hard to follow one’s conscience when one has demonstrated one has no conscience. Romney mocks, God, his Christianity and his church. Excommunicate this POS and remove him from public office!

I showed up today just to add my contempt for the Marxist RINO Romney who I did NOT vote for in 2012. As well, it was a distinct pleasure to watch Karl Rove meltdown on live TV when Romney lost. It will be equally satisfying to watch Trump, who is our greatest president ever, win again in Nov, and to watch Romney get thrown out of the Senate in 2024. Once a RINO, ALWAYS A BACKSTABBING RINO!

Romney is an idiot. He cannot vote to "convict" at this stage. He can only vote against acquittal, which means that a trial will ensue, with witnesses and all the trimmings.

Would have been much better for us all if there had been a speedy dismissal. But no. Romney wants to put the country through weeks, maybe months, of an unnecessary sham trial, for what?

I think there is still hope. Where does the vote stand without Romney's. 52-48?

If Manchin is a yes he is also committing career suicide.

It’s hard to find a place where Trump is more popular than West Virginia.

Mittwit is inviting ostracism from Pubbies so he can run on a unity ticket in 2024 (like Lincoln in 1864).

He’ll pick a Dim for VP and lament how mean politics has become.

Looks like NO Dems will cross over, just one person has betrayed his party, Mitt Romney.
