‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’

There is that word love. It has a lot of meanings.

Looking back at my life the ones that truly loved set me on a path of truth. they weren’t always nice about them but the message behind the message was, “YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS”

Message given, doubt received.

It would be a different article then, Einstein.

Exactly right...
Scribes, Pharisees, Politicians all gathered together at the national prayer breakfast to drop a gold coin into the tithing plate while they demand the poor widow extract her last penny!

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness.”
Mt 23:27

I’m not sad one bit that President Donald J. Trump did a smackdown in the middle of that pontificating pen of pigs at the trough. Maybe it will wake some of them up and start doing what’s needed to deflate that government hydra beast that they created.

Trump is Trump. He is not going to change. Did not Obama criticize Christians during at least one Prayer Breakfast? Did Cal say it should be cancelled when Obama was harassing and persecuting Christians?

I’m not sure why your making this about me.

But since you brought it up, if he said the same thing about 0, I don’t think I would have commented at all.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

That would be a justifiable statement if both sides shared blame for the rift. And there was a chance that kindness would heal the wounded. But that is not the case. Trump was attacking Satan’s minions who would cut his throat in a nanosecond if given the chance even if he spent his entire speech praising them and looking for unity. Trump has learned from the scripture I just posted ‘Not to cast pearls before swine’. Doesn’t sound like you have.

“And lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.” https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/the-press-office/2015/02/05/remarks-president-national-prayer-breakfast

Here the former Doofus in Chief expressed concern for some muslim “afraid” to pray after the San Bernadino massacre

“And he told me how the day after the tragedy in San Bernardino happened, he took his three young children to a playground in the Marquette Park neighborhood, and while they were out, the time came for one of the five daily prayers that are essential to the Muslim tradition.” https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/the-press-office/2016/02/04/remarks-president-national-prayer-breakfast-0

The author denies the reality that there is evil in the world. Trump recognizes the evil that Pelosi represents, and I support his efforts in calling it out for what it is.

Reconciliation is a two party transaction, it cannot happen unless both parties are amenable to it.

In his remarks, Brooks said if people can't sincerely practice forgiveness and reconciliation, they should "fake it." His point was that reconciliation has a power all its own, even if one initially is not sincere about it.

Cal uncritically includes this as a solution. What it does is highlight his own willingness to present himself falsely.

I would refer him to Isaiah 5:20

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

No one respects a man who operates under false pretense.

What is refreshing about Trump is that, unlike Cal, he will not stoop to phoniness. Trump later that day called out bullshit for what it was.

How refreshing and inspiring.

“It’s God’s job to forgive, not mine......”

You cannot offer forgiveness to a person who is unrepentant.

There isn’t anything done within the border of the District of Columbia that isn’t political. Cal has been around long enough to know that. His problem is that he lets his dislike of the president get in the way.

Good post. I agree with you.

Turning the other cheek implies being slapped which is usually an insult and not a real threat.

Christ didn’t tell us to let others punch us in the face.

Also, He did say that we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

As.

No more, no less.

Christians sometimes allow bullies to abuse because they think that to love and to be nice are the same thing.

President Trump appears to know the difference.

That may be one reason why Cal Thomas and others were so uncomfortable with Trump to begin with. If you elect people who are experienced at politics, you may get somebody who knows what they can do and what they can't do, what they can get away with, how far they can go, who they can trust and who they can't, so they don't get into the troubles that novices do, or if they do, they can handle them better. If they choose to go to prayer breakfasts, they know that there are people there who hate them, but they can deal with the situation and they don't let it get to them.

I understand that Trump turned out better than the professional politicians running against him would have, but it's not like the fears Cal Thomas and others had were entirely groundless.
