Bill Gates Reportedly Buys $644 Million Aqua Yacht, Shipbuilder Says Sale Hasn’t Happened Yet

Bill Gates has reportedly ordered himself a gigantic yacht.

According to the The New York Post, the Telegraph reported that Gates had ordered the $644 million Aqua yacht from the Dutch design firm Sinot. However, Sinot told the New York Post no deal has been done just yet. Still, if something is in the works, the yacht sounds absurd.

Whether or not Gates ever takes control of Aqua, it’s such a power move to even consider spending $644 million on a boat.

I’ve always been obsessed with yachts. I’m not even sure why, but I just think they’re awesome. A yacht isn’t just a status symbol.

It’s a lifestyle choice. When you’re living on a yacht, you’re essentially telling the world you’re living a carefree lifestyle.

LOL! No doubt made of hemp to keep it enviro friendly. Not to mention that with that kind of money he could have been in the race as a demo contestant. Good to be the king.

It isn’t made of hemp but it also doesn’t run on petroleum products. It will be hydrogen powered.

He needs to buy two. While one is being cleaned, he can sail on the other one. After, what’s a measly $644 million?

Carbon footprint? Watching one’s carbon footprint is for the ‘little people’!

Aqua Yacht

Isn't this a bit, well... redundant?

“When you’re living on a yacht, you’re essentially telling the world you’re living a carefree lifestyle.”

IIRC Paul Allen’s yacht could carry something like 18 guests. It had a crew of 60 or something. I suppose Allen and Gates can be “carefree” - but running a yacht is probably anything but carefree.

The REAL carefree lifestyle is being a friend invited to be on the yacht. Not the guy that owns and maintains it.

LOL...the article says his purchase of this yacht is to signal his desire for cleaner energy (or some such BS )....if that were true, he would forgo this purchase and order a bicycle.

So ZERO petroleum related products will be harmed in the production of the proposed yacht then? :-)

95% of hydrogen is manufactured from fossil fuels. It’s a coal burner:)

Now converting sea water into hydrogen to power the boat seems like a brilliant idea.

My parents were friends with a very wealthy guy that had the largest yacht on Lake Superior. We went out with him several times. The first time we went he was up on deck, alone, sanding the teak. Dad and I helped while the wives talked and made lunch.

I asked him why he didn’t have somebody to do this work for him? “Well - I have this boat to relax. But it is more than just the boating. It is everything about the boat - the mechanics, the upkeep, planning a trip, plotting a course. And nothing better than sanding and varnishing the deck and looking at it shine as the water spray beads off!”
